Skiing in the french school holiday??
Message:
Managed to get the kids looked after for 6 days at the end of Feb so we can get away on our own as a first. Decided to go in the mh rather than the less adventurous plane etc. Booked cover, booked time off............b*gger, french school holidays! Any thoughts? Worse than our half term? Love going to France but what about Germany? Both enjoy easy going blues, or not too demanding reds, pref to be close to town/lifts. Ta very.

We find skiing the French school hold (in France) is ok as long as you:
1. start your skiing day at 9.00 or 10:00 and avoid the intervening period when the kids are being dropped off and beginning ski school.
2. Have an early lunch or a snack at 11.00 and then ski thru the period from noon till 2pm while the French take their lunch.
3. Avoid the resort centre around 2.00 till 2.30 as the French come out after lunch and afternoon ski school begins so it can be v. busy. This is time to start thinking about taking a late lunch.
4. Ski school usually finishes at 4.30 so avoid any runs back into the resort centre from 4pm.
With a little forethought it is quite easy to avoid the worst of the crowds, don't be put off.

If that's the only time you can go then just bite the bullet & enjoy.
We went to Samoens 1/2 term last year and it WAS busy. Swore I'd never go in the holidays again (we clashed with Paris & the Netherlands, apparently). My youngest is in year 12 doing his 1st year of A levels and we just can't take him out of school with the amount of work he's got at the mo so, hey ho, it's half term again! The upside is he's got inset day on Friday so we can get a head start (hopefully!).
Off to Gerardmer for starters and then see what happens
