Ford 2.2 L 140 bhp engine

We have just had a failure of the pulley on the end of the crankshaft that drives the PAS etc.
According to the local Mr Ford its a quite common failure on the 140 bhp version of the FWD unit - presumably because of the higher torsionals? If that is the case it could be partially caused by our driving styles - high torque/low revs.
Our unit is 27,000 miles / 3.5 years old
