New x250 157 hp (Help)
Message:
Hello from a windy Devon,
Just bought a new motorhome and a bit worried about the feed back on this first class site.
Can someone help me regarding the gear box judder and water getting in the engine bay.
Our new van is Chausson Allegro 96 on a FIAT X250 3 litre 157 HP 4000KG Manufactured 2008.
Will my van have the same problems?
Any feed back would help.

Open the bonnet and look at the engine particularly the injectors, if they are rusty then you need to get the van to a dealer. There is a Fiat recall on the VOSA website to do with wiper motors also being affected.
As to the judder in reverse, you just need to take the van to a hill with a gradient of 1 in 6 or so and see what happens. I am sure the judder was there from the first time we reversed our van, I do not think it developed slowly.

Hi Mike
In short yes you will have the problem, that said don't panic all is well.
The judder, report it to Fiat and get a case number, they are at the start of the rectification process fitting harder engine mounts. This said that will not cure having to slip the clutch in reverse due to it being too high geared, just remember to avoid reversing when possible.
Leaking under the bonnet is a miner problem, I spray once a month under the bonnet with WD40 and I have sealed the windscreen.
Please don't let either of the above spoil your Motorhoming, get out there and enjoy. You have the added benefit that Swift are members on the MHF forum.
Best Regards
