Merc Sprinter brake pedal travel

I have a 2003 Autotrail Dakota on a Merc Sprinter 316 with a sprintshift gearbox.
If I brake hard from about 60 the brake pedal feels soft and goes almost to the floor. the van stops but it is not exactly confidence inspiring having so much brake pedal travel.
I purchased the van a few months ago and raised my concerns with the dealership, who to be fair, immediately took it to a local Merc truck dealership who said "everything was fine and they all do that" they still replaced the brake master cylinder though !!
My question is aimed at anyone else who has a MH based on the same chassis. Are your brakes the same?? am I just being picky or is there something not quite right with my vehicle??
Any experiences would be much appreciated, thank you in advance.

Mine is exactly the same, never had a problem stopping but often feel like giving it a pump.
