Hello,
Having been insured through Safeguard for the last 2 years, due to a price increase we have been looking for cheaper quotes.
Highest so far £1,200
Lowest £265
However, a couple of the lower quotes do have 5,000 mile annual limits.
Trying to compare cover provided has been another problem.
Anyone else had problems with mileage restrictions?

We insured with Safeguard for a second year for £292 and unlimited mileage. Did you make a claim in the previous year ,if the price was going up. |

Just renewed ours with Safeguard
It has gone up £5 but that's due to the Legal cover increasing from £20 to £25 - can never decide whether its worth adding
Also I note that the windscreen replacement excess has gone up from £60 to £100
Also there is a £15 renewal fee
I tried lowering the value of our van by a couple of thousand but that didn't make any difference to the premium
Still think it was reasonable including full EU breakdown cover for £337 as we do a high mileage 10200 in the last year

You do not mention how much your premium has gone up. But I fear you have committed the heinous crime of making a claim and been flagged up as being a "problem".
As an observation on guest house insurance. If you make a claim on your policy ,your premium is guaranteed to go up the following year. And I assume that m/h insurance is the same. |

| When we renewed our insurance this year with c.i.s. in november they put a 2000 a year mileage limit on our motorhome when we phoned them up we were told that the company was just getting into line with other companies. when we explained that it was no good to us as we were going abroad and by the time we drove to dover and back that would only leave us a couple of hundred miles to play with BUT if we gave them another £21 pounds they would change it to 20,000 miles which we did , now they said the less mileage we do the less chance there is of an accident. we have full n.c.d. protected and never claimed anything apart from a windscreen myself i think it is just a way of getting more cash out of us . have been with them 25yrs but we will be looking around next yr ALAN |

| We were with CIS till last year when we had a more competitive quote from a different insurer. This must be quite a new thing for CIS to impose a limit as all the years we were with them there was none. However to start with a 2000 annual limit shows how little they seem to know about Motorhoming- though I suppose you can;'t argue with their logic of "less mileage-less chance of an accident- so less risk to them" |

Hello all,
Thanks for your replies. The lowest quote we got was £265 without breakdown cover and 4,000 mile limit. Highest was £1,900.
In the end we telephoned Safguard and after some negotiating we managed to get them down by £90 5% was for being a MHF member although they said that this was realy only for new customers.
As we travel at least 12,000 miles pa in the motorhome, a lower limit was obviously of no use.
Glas we stayed with Safegaurd as the cover is fairly comprehensive and the breakdown that we had to pay for was refunded in 3 days.
