I have a Peugeot Boxer 1.9 diesel camper, year 2001 with 22000 miles on the clock.
I have just had to have a new gearbox fitted due to water in the gearbox oil, this has happened because of a waste water pipe that has been emptying on to the box. The pipe is from the base of the windscreen and has been routed down through the engine and sits above the box, over time the water coming out has got into the oil and ruined the syncromesh.
The mechanic who did the work says there was almost a pint of water in there and this is not the first time he has seen the problem.
The cost for the work was over £1000
What i would like to know is there anybody else out there who has had this problem...did they receive any compensation from Peugeot as this is a massive design fault from Peugeot i think.....or at some time has there been a recall to rectify the problem and its just that mine has not been done....Many thanks for your help
Sorry to hear of your g'box problem. I haven't any direct experience of this problem, but I'm sure that I've heard of other people having similar problems. No doubt another wiser head will be along soon-ish!
It does seem like a distinct lack of forethought on the manufacturer's part, and makes a mockery of all the development effort that vehicle makers put into their products. If nothing else, your post will have lots of people hurriedly checking their own vehicle's water drain arrangements and changing gearbox oil!
Here's hoping for trouble free motorhoming from now on for you.

Our previous MH was a 2001 Peugeot 1.9 td. In 2 yr 9mth we did 24,000miles. The only thing to pack up was the speedy. The nylon drive pinion inside the gearbox had melted because water had turned the oil to a thick emulsion!
This vehicle was serviced every 6 months so it came as a surprise. I do recall a period of extremely wet weather, however, prior to this problem coming to the surface.
Interestingly, when I mentioned the speedy issue on this site, around 7 other members said they'd had the same!
When the Boxer was introduced in 1994, water was a major problem in two ways (at least), firstly, the run-off went straight on to the battery, so the channeling had to be redirected. Secondly, the water could run straight on top of the gearbox which it entered via a breather, I believe.
I thought that, by 2001, these issues had been sorted.
If you want more info from this site, it would be worth subscribing to the tune of £10. You'd get your monies worth.
