Stopped ovenight as a base to get in to London for late afternoon/ evening. Obviously noisy from the planes taking off, but you get used to it! Bus runs every hour during daytime Monday - Saturday from right outside the site. South Terminal stop takes about 5 minutes, and short walk to the rail station (accessed from inside airport terminal only). Trains tun every 15 minutes or so on normal services to Victoria - approx 35 mins journey. Gatwick Express (premium price!) additional to that - 30 minutes non stop.Buses stop running approx 7pm, so need a taxi after that from the other side of the teminal - I would advise booking using the service recommended by the site (phone from train) rather than using the "official" rip off taxis at 13!!

This site is largely dedicated to storage and seasonal pitches.
The touring area is nicely laid out. Large hardstandings, a few
tarmac pitches and some grass pitches. There is a late night
arrivals area just inside the entrance.
The site is protected by barriers for which you get a swipe card.
At 8:00pm a height barrier is activated and this stays in place until
8:00am. This is a big problem if you have a motorhome and want
to stay out in the evening or leave early in the morning. Be warned.
This barrier will not or cannot be raised between these hours.
The office is very nicely decorated with hanging baskets full of
flowers. Large red metal bins are also planted out and line the site
road alongside the office block.
The Wardens were found to be friendly and approachable.
There is the usual full range of CC facilities, shower and toilet
block with a plentiful supply of hot water. There is a motorhome
service point and no doubt due to the provision of storage an area
to wash 'vans and motorhomes.
Recycling bins are provided and take paper, cardboard, bottles, both
glass and plastic and tins. Why there was so much recyclable material
in the general rubbish bins was questionable.
Perhaps visitors were not aware that the recycling bins were there?
Maybe this needs to be pointed out to people when they arrive.
The dog walk field is open and pleasant with pathways cut through
the grass and poop scoops are provided by the dog waste bin.
Of course the major attraction of this site is having Gatwick's
runway in the immediate vicinity! If you are looking for a quiet,
peaceful site so you can listen to bird song this ain't it.
However if you like to see and hear 'planes taking off no more than
300 yards away from your pitch, this is heaven.
During peak holiday season it seems as though the 'planes are going
out at 30 to 40 second intervals. As landings take place in between
it makes you glad you cannot see in front of or behind yourself when
you are sitting in a plane on the runway.
Just to the left of the site as you walk out of the entrance is a
very nice pub. Large gardens and pretty good food.
Struck me as being a bit on the expensive side though.
Can recommend the stilton, bacon and advocado salad, the burgers are good and the cheesy chips. Well!
If you carry on up the road past the pub and follow the road round to
the right you will find yourself at one end of the runway.
If the planes are landing from this end they go over your head pretty
low down. The area will be full of plane spotters too! Cameras,
notebooks and radios everywhere.
We have had 2 short trips to this site so far.
There do not appear to be any shops close to hand although Crawley is
just a short drive away. Walking opportunities seem to be limited as
the roads are fairly busy and lacking in footpaths. However that seems
to be pretty common particularly in the South East of our country.
All in all a very nice tidy site. Well worth a visit but expect it to
be noisy due to the airport.
I cannot remember offhand what the site fees are but details can be found on the Caravan Club web site.
