Must have stopped the same time as sennen523 but were lucky enough to find that when the fair is on they move the aire parking up at the back where the sports centre is which you get to through the car park past the council building, also nice bar in the sports centre doing meals if you like.

We tried to visit on 12/09/10 but there was a fair on the site which apparently stays for quite sometime. Be aware of planning a stopover at Tournai as you may not be able to use the aire. There is an alternative somewhere but we couldn't find it.

We have stayed here 3 times now.

Its a brilliant stopover for Germany etc. Its minutes off the Autoroute A27 j34 turn right at the first island up the strange 4 lane road and its on the right just past the next lights.
Its well signposted, nice and big with free facilities, a good dog walking area, 5 minutes walk from the town square and 2 minutes to a nice boulangerie.
The council guy comes around about 6 pm and gives you a leaflet with a map welcoming you to the town. and its all free!

As someone else has said, tis but a short walk to the very intersting town of Tournai which is full of splendid Flemish architecture. Everything is still free including the excellent services. If you have a dog the immediate area is ok for sniffing around. We didn't actually get a personal welcome but the first class signs are a model of how to do it. This makes an good stop prior to departure from Calais if your're coming in from the South East.
