1st MOT for VW Topaz

Hi
Not sure if I'm in the best forum for this question really but here goes..........

My Topaz is due for her first MOT next month and I was wondering if there were any other VW owners who live in my neck of the woods (NW Kent) who could recommend a good garage within a reasonable distance to me.

I only ask because we normally use our local garage for the cars and that is fine but the Topaz also need a service and I would prefer to make sure she gets well and truly looked after. Our local garage would possibly be ok for the mechanics but its the all over check I want to be sure about.

Any help much appreciated and if the Mods think this might not be the best forum for my question could they move me on to a more appropriate one :D

Many thanks

:D :D I have a Caravelle which I take to my local and trusted back street garage....(MOT and services)....half the price and I think better service....I'm not paying for the dolly bird receptionists and comfy lounges with free coffee/biscuits and newspapers...just my thoughts

:D :D Forgot to ask Maura.....what do you think of your Topaz and what VW is it based on.....I'm seriously looking at a Bilbos Elegans....LWB VW with a dedicated porta potti...just that bit more room with it being a LWB.

Well now Smithy I'm not sure I'm the best person to answer your question but I will give it a go

I absolutely love my Topaz and so does my hubby BUT and it is a big BUT we are not die hard campers - we use the van for holidays and days out and general driving around but we don't sleep in her. (Shock horror I know) I'm hoping the Mods wont read this or I might get struck off

Seriously though for all sorts of reasons we decided on this little camper and she has never disappointed us. The space inside is perfect for us, in my opinion it has heaps of storage but previous owner found her a bit cramped for long term camping around Europe and I would agree he made a mistake in thinking she would be big enough for that.

The shower and toilet area were a big selling point for me - I love the fact it opens up at the back of the van and is well away from the lounge area. The model we have is an automatic and my husband was really impressed with this version. He reckons it handles as well as any car he has driven (and he drives a big Audi Auto daily). It cruises along at 70mph without you even realising it. Parks easily - unless you make the mistake we did and take it into the multi storey car park at Bluewater a few weeks back....first time I've ever seen my other half drive the wrong way out of the car park with a very red face  (stickers with height of vehicle now firmly placed on dashboard!!)

It is based on the T5 Transporter and has 2.5TDi engine and really that's about the extent of my technical knowledge :(

Hope that helps a bit. We waited ages to get our hands on this one and mistakenly bought an Autosleepers Pollensa in our impatience to have a motorhome. It was too big for our needs, a lovely van but too big. We should have waited but there you go.

:D :D Thanks for that Maura and what a pity you don't sleep in her...my main reason for lookng at a Elegans is the height issue...at 2 metres high those dreaded height barriers should'nt effect me and I should be able to get to places where other M/Hs fear to tread...I appreciate that space will have to be sacrificed but if we intend staying somewhere long that we'll have to erect an awning to the side of the vehicle....at the end of the day I realise that it's a compromise but one I'm sure we can put up with.....
safe travels :D :D

Hi Maura,

If you don't mind travelling to East Sussex , The MOT, service and habitation is not a problem.
