Have you not had a caravan before, :?:
the motorhome is in storage most of the year and we think will get more use fron a tow-car and caravan. How do you go about selling and buying?

Hi and welcome.

I can see where you are coming from. If your style of holiday is to stay in one place for a few days and then move on, then a car and caravan is a good choice. The huge disadvantage of a motorhome is that a simple sightseeing trip or shopping trip from the site means you have to pack away and also you have to find somewhere to park a large vehicle when you get where you are going. The alternatives- bikes or public transport- take longer and are a pain if it is wet.

We discussed this while away and challenged the received wisdom that it take a tugger ages to set up while the MHer arrives, plugs in and pours the wine. It simply doesn't stand up ! Both have to do the same tasks - water, levelling, etc etc but choose to do them at different times. A tugger who is simply overnighting can be settled within minutes of arrival on a site, a MHer who is intending to spend a week on site has to do pretty much the same as the tugger.

We remain - at the moment when we don't spend a long time on any site- committed MHers but that is not to say we will not change when we tire of moving on every day.

Further to Grizzly's comments, I think a lot depends on where you live. :?

In the UK I think the arguments are fairly well balanced, but if I lived in France (for example) I wouldn't dream of changing to a caravan.

Just for starters I would be giving up the use of Aires, Stellplazen and the like, which are such a huge benefit "sur le Continent". :D :D

Just a thought.

We have a small campsite in France, and store the Hymer in a barn whilst site is open (till end October) At moment pull Polo on large trailer behind m/home if we change to caravan its possible to sell polo and trailer sell m/home and buy caravan & towcar. We are a bit worried as to what to do. We pay insurance on all these vehicles (including the trailer)

What was you reason for buying it in the first place

Interesting topic - you do know that Enterprise give 5% discount to CC members, for car hire, and they come and collect and return you to your site, no matter how far away their office is!!! This could be the answer to relieving you of taxing/insuring so many vehicles as well as the MH.

Is Enterprise a French company Jennifer? :?

If it isn't, I don't think it will be a lot of use to the OP! 8O 8O

We both retired early and toured around france for a while, before buying our campsite.
Sorry Pylons, missed the thread re the French campsite. Does not appear that they have offices in France.
If you actively run your campsite all summer you may have the same problem with car & caravan.

No time to use it.
or am i missing something

I am suprised no one has asked this question.
Where is your camp site
