Need a little advice. Can anyone help me. I have just bought an old 1995 2.5D Autosleeper executive. Immaculate for its year. Drove it home 170+ miles. I think I would have appreciated a tad more power on the hills. Could I swap for a 2.5TD without too much trouble. Are any of the engines interchangeable?

Hi, changing an engine will not be an easy task even in a fully equipped workshop, the power outputs are matched to gear ratios turbos operate within a power band, Colin Chapman answer in formula one was to reduce weight, car manufactures do it progressively to increase performance and fuel consumption, have a think on where this can be achieved especially if you have an untroublesome engine already fitted, dont load up with water, is an easy fix but i have been surprised seeing motorhome owners fill up with fresh water before a journey, good luck with your quest.

Just would add this as an after thought i have witnessed vehicles in the early days not reaching full performance, and checking that the throttle was fully open was a first check, of course on newer vehicles this is not appropriate as they are drive by wire ie no throttle cable.

We also carry a full tank if we know it's going to be a pain filling up when we get somewhere or are unsure of the water arrangements.

We don't use sites so we fill where we can, meaning that we often travel with a full tank.

I don't think that "adding lightness" to refer back to Colin Chapman is a priority in my van.

Same here Alan. You've seen the size of it so an extra 100kg or so doesn't bother me.
