Since the U.K. is no longer part of the EU the Blue Badges issued in the U.K. are no longer recognised in the EU.

However, Blue Badges issued in the EU ARE valid in the U.K.

If you can explain how such a crazy dichotomy has arisen, other than “we forgot”, please explain.

I have not heard of any U.K. BB holder encountering difficulties but……

Here in France the old card badges are no longer recognised as there has been a great deal of fraudulent manufacture and use. The new ones, and therefore the only acceptable ones in France, are credit card sized.

I did show mine to a Traffic Warden in Romsey in December 2019 ( the last time we were there) she took a photo as she had never seen one before and wanted to show her colleagues.

I also have a “Priorite” card to use in supermarkets where at the marked till, I am permitted to ask to be served next, irrespective of the length of the queue etc., that does NOT always make one popular, but I have never been refused.

I don’t think such a card exists in the U.K.

I see no reason why when you finally have exhausted yourself jumping through all the hoops, and they issue a badge there should be two types, temporary and permanent, and there should along with the normal sized ones, a credit card sized one to have on your person to show that you are actually registered and can go to the front of the queue anywhere not just supermarkets, and maybe have an ad on TV every few hours to inform the thickos who don't see what the difference is between a disabled space, mother and child or an ordinary space.

Seems weird, my own doc can see from my records that I'm currently getting treatment such as guided injections for my hip issues and that my arthritis has been getting worse and badly affecting my mobility.

it's because some will have been too friendly with their patients and just signed it off, or maybe due to harassment, it makes sense, just a PITA to go to an unfamiliar surgery.

I'm sure I posted this elsewhere, but my blue badge went missing at the end of March, searched everywhere, rang places we'd been according to my Google timeline (useful) nothing, so I rang the council to report it lost, they send me a letter, the lady I spoke to also told me I had to report it via this website https://www.reportmyloss.com/uk/ for which there is a charge, which I do straight away, but if she hadn't told me I would have been stuffed as I didn't see it anywhere else. I fill in the letter which is only missing the number from the above website so why couldn't I just do that online or over the phone, days wasted going back n forth, I got a letter on Tuesday saying I could have a new badge, (they could have refuses it seems) £10 please (fair enough) So I ordered a new cover for it off eBay, I rang council again this morning to see how long before I would get it as we are supposed t be going away end of next week and it makes a huge difference being able to park the van closer to amenities etc, up to 12 weeks it seems, printed down south somewhere, I just think a bit of joined up thinking and better organisation would bring the lead time down and provide a better service, and I still think a credit sized card in addition, would also help.

You can travel on the Windermere ferry free with a Blue Badge! When we were there for a few weeks in October I used it all the time on the Scooter! :D I believe it applies to any vehicle though.

Yes any vehicle the badge holder is travelling in, you don't have to own it.
Kev must have missed the posts about your bad knees.

Always remember Tony (GEMMY). His wife had a blue badge and he always had a relatively new Hymer!

He would buy the MH new and claim the VAT back as it was essential transport for his wife. He would then trade it in for approx new value minus VAT after 18-24 months and do the whole thing again. He boasted of it. Anyone know of him now?

I'm going to apply for one for my FiL as he can't take 1 step safely now without a frame or sticks. He has to lock his knees in place before can even think of moving his legs.

I know about his knees, but you won't get a badge around here for knees Terry, I think it's another postcode lottery, Liz had bad knees for years and had no chance, it's a very unfair system, Liz should qualify now with her ME and IBS etc but she can't get one.

Have you tried to appeal it? I know plenty of people who have them because of knees or hips. It was crucial to me when I was still working all over the place as I simply couldnt get to a lot of places I needed to be without parking outside instead of miles away. There is a tendency for people to play down their ailments. You need to tell them what you are like on your worst day not your best.

LOL! Had one for year Kev. Prolly cos I cant feckin walk! :(
I'm pleased that you have one mate, I don't recall it coming up before though.

It's about time that none blue badge holders were fined big for using blue badge bays, just laziness usually, going to ATM etc, we were in the local Sainsbugs cafe last week, and two Range rovers pulled into two BB bays, the people got out and walked into town, they looked to be fit and able, I know not all disabilities are visible, but they didn't have badges anyway, just taking the ****, they actually could have parked further away from the store and walked less.

My mother always refused to get a blue badge (yellow then) because she didn't drive. But it was always up to the poor old driver (me) after dropping her off at the door to then go find somewhere else to park and the same on collection. Took me years to explain the problem but eventually when we had to bring the wheelchair she agreed.

Ray.
