Buying a Used Motorhome - your Dealer Turnaround Time?

2993 Views 10 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  teemyob
Hello all,

We are considering buying a used motorhome and trading ours in as PX along with maybe some cash, maybe finance.

If we struck a deal this weekend, what are the usual turnaround times for completing the deal?

I was hoping to buy Saturday, collect next Friday!

What are your experiences?

hi trev,

you would need a well run garage selling cars to manage that let alone a motorhome . pdi, well they say they do them, clean/valeted, minor things fixed (unless new) i wish you luck.

Ours took a week so it can be done but it is up to the Dealer.
We bought ours at Stratford show 5 years ago and we collected it a week later at Bury
Good luck

HI Trev,

Ours are cleaned and valeted and any obvious problem areas resolved, they however will need a full habitation and mechanical service before being delivered.

We like to do that after they have been sold so they are all fresh with twelve months full availablity, same as with MOT status on 3 year olds.

Anything is possible as regards a quick turn round.

However we always suggest that purchasers living some miles away stay local for two or three days so that any niggles or queries can be sorted quickly.

Thats how we do it.

Hi Trev

We were thinking of doing this a couple of years ago, but we made the mistake of asking the dealer over the phone beforehand. "Yes" they said, which was encouraging. What wasn't encouraging was the derisory offer they made for our van in part exchange (because they thought we were desperate).

So, my advice is to get the numbers down on paper first, then ask about doing it inside a week.

Thanks everyone for the replies,

Anyone else? or did you all buy off ebay with cash?

The last two campers we have bought have had a turnaround of a week. Seen on Saturday and picked up the following Saturday. As Peter says we were always advised by the dealer to stay local in case of problems (in fact Webbs booked us into a campsite both times)

we ordered a new motorhome from Camper UK Lincoln, it had to be shipped from Germany. Pdi and valeted fitted with extras and we still got it on the date promised. Approx 2 weeks. Thats what I call service. The previous motorhome from another dealer was in stock was promised a good delivery in the end took 6 weeks and still hadnt been prepped properly. Needless to say will not use the latter company again
week

Looking good then! I may be able to stretch to a week and a day or two. Just.

Off out to see what we can find, wish us luck!

Thanks for the replies.
