We stay on this site for several months each winter, there are disabled facilities in each of the toilet blocks(key access)We have seen several wheelchair users on site and the shower/toilet facilities are good and accessible, as far as I remember most of the other facilities are wheelchair friendly but I would not like to give a definitive answer, best to contact the site.

Cabanas is a small town, not over developed, with a new raised promenade decking with wheelchair access about half a mile from the site, bit of a slope but not too steep.

Hi Ed, while browsing I looked at your enquiry while in Portugal in September 2 years ago Hazel and I popped down to the coast to cool off.

We went to ACSI site 3007, Parque de Campismo do Paco, which is on the edge of Vila Praia de Ancora.

The campsite is in a wooded area with a stream running alongside, I remember the toilet block was ok but was not looking out for disabled amenities ( We will in future and put any we find on the forum).

The town has some cobbles but when you drive through close to the sea the road runs parallel to it. You can just park up and there is a good footpath alongside around + 1/2 mile.

It may be worthwhile doing some searches about it.

Anyway keep on enjoying your motorhoming.

best wishes bill and hazel

Will echo the comments re Rio Formosa in Cabanas. Good site.
Cabanas is Ok and the riverfront boardwalk is ok for disabled people, BUT Portugal is not very disabled friendly....many of the"old towns' are cobbled and seriously hard work with a wheelchair. Many bars and restos are small and have difficult access for wheelchairs. Pavements mostly do not have wheelchair acess.
Having said that, the people are lovely and will bend over backwards to help. The resto "Sabores de Ria" in Cabanas is up on the first floor, with beautiful views over the river. When there recently with our wheelchair bound friend, the staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. Several came out to carry his wheelchair, with him in it!, up the stairs to the resto. It's a great resto too...really good food!
Good luck, don't be put off.... but be prepared.....

I would agree with Garcia. They use small yellow irregular bricks/cobbles that are difficult to walk on in anything but good flat shoes. Many have been dug up for services and badly relaid compounding the problem.

I'm sure there are wheelchair friendly sites but as yet I haven't really noticed. Sorry.

Ray.

Hi Ed,
we,ve been a couple of times and hubby is full time chair user. some places are good and some are bad and as has already been said you have to go with an open mind. if you have good pushing strength or someone with you who does then most places we went to were ok. alvor had fabulous wooden boardwalks along the beaches and lagos has a great front to walk/wheel along. we stayed with family on the site at Olhao and the staff and facilities were good, but the town is more difficult apart from the front.
we visited Tavira and Fuseta also which were 50/50 accessible.
