I am thinking of buying a 2004 Chausson 27 (Transit 2.4TD) I can find little in the way a reviews and know little about their reputation?

Could anyoe enlighten me on the quality and reliability of what I gather is a mid-range MH. Also what about the Transit as a base?

Advice much appreciated

Can't advise on the habitation side, but the Transit is an excellent base vehicle, with a tried and tested pedigree.
From the Chausson models I've seen, they appear to be a well screwed together Motorhome, with good reviews in the media.

Good luck with your choice M&D :)

If you visit the Hymer site (I have lost the link now,it came in a newsletter) for 2006 they are developing a Transit based MH. Looks like an auto to get around the gear lever getting in the way in the cab.

Chausson vans are very popular on the continent and you see plenty of them around. The Tranny is tried and tested although as posted can be a bit noisey. The main reason few converters use them in the UK is down to basics - "price" in order I suppose the VW is the dearest, then the Tranny the Fiat/Peugeot(same van) is the cheapest so thats why it holds around 70% of the new build market

I've got one
I think its a great M/H especially the rear wheel drive. Mine has twin wheels, so I don't get stuck.
The Tranny is only noisy when cold. Once it has got up to temperature it's quieter than the Fiat Ducatto I had before it.
The gear stick doesn't get in the way as it is right next to the dashboard.
The problem is the handbrake, which is next to the drivers seat on the inboard side. I also have to release the brake to swivel the drivers seat.
It's a small problem to put up with in such a great van 8)

Thanks for the valuable comments.

Unfortunately I was stupid tenough to look around and am impressed by a new CI Mizar!!! Fits the bill of lots of space for 2/3 plus fitted bunks for when we take the grandkids.

Am impressed and it seems good value for money though there are obviously the odd bits not quite fitting correctly.

Questions are about quality. Reviews seem good but can anyone confirm CI's reputation or have experience of same model or earlier version.

Best wishes

Alan
