You need a cigarette lighter plug there will be a socket in the cab.

So many unanswered questions Colin. Is it a mains charger or a 12v one. Does you van have 240v outlets as well as 12v ones. Is it for when you travelling or camped and plugged in to power?

He says his system uses 12v and uses normal plugs. I assume that means normal 12v sockets into which a normal 12v cigarette lighter type plug fits.

Thats it Alan we assume. Most vans have mains available when plugged in. Need more of the diagnosis.

I don't think phones have been sold with dedicated chargers for some years now. I think that it was an EU directive to save waste. You get a USB lead and (sometimes) an ordinary plug. That lead can fit into a 230v plug or a 12v cigar lighter plug no worries it charges at 5 volts (universal USB voltages) on both. Make sure you get a cigar lighter USB adapter that is fairly new and capable of supplying at least 1.2 amps (A). Some of the older cheaper ones won't and your adapter would't last long.

Thanks all very helpful cheers. I do have lighter charger at front of cab so can use that but kids have to climb across bed to get to it. At back there is a 3 pin plug and a 2 blade 12 v plug socket. In the Wilde would anything work of these via the leisure battery

Yes. You could perhaps change that socket for a cigarette lighter socket which night be more useful.

I have one of those factory fitted two pin 12v sockets. You can also get these if you dont want to mess on changing the socket

As loads of stuff needs USB chargers these days you might be better running a "quality" two or four way cig charger off the battery and mounting it somewhere useful. Some come with 2 or 4 USB ports but dont buy something cheap. I have all sorts like that mounted in our wardrobe now. Make sure whatever you get has an inline fuse and if it has USB sockets that they can be turned off as some draw a current even when not in use I believe. It will be tiny but enough to flatten the battery if its left for months on end.

You've not told us which van you have, be aware that on the more modern Sevel based vehicles the cab cig lighter sockets are only live when the ignition is switched on.

Ideally you should ensure that the supply to the existing socket has a fused link and that the fuse is adequate for the unit fitted, if not able to do so, then install a fuse in your wiring.
Ensure that you identify live and earth as anything you plug into either the socket or charge port will be polarity conscious.
