Can someone please clarify the cost of a second warranty service for a fiat 2.3jtd ducatto. Mileage will be around 11,000.

My cousin just received a quote from Swansea fiat dealers for £460 to include vat and parts. That is absolutely crazy?

I just phoned St Dogmaels in Cardigan and they said £140 plust vat and parts.

Any idea if Swansea are correct as they claim fiat are changing things? Not sure what though. Apparently Cardiff will not service motorhomes now.

Anyone else been given silly prices like this and is it correct that as long as fiat parts are used then you can cover the warranty with a non-fiat garage?

Hi Chris,
Take your Van to a franchised UK dealer for your make and model, and they will love to take your money. A maunfacturers agent anywhere in Europe, including the UK is obliged to fiddle with the oily bits in exchange for money, exactly as in any other case. Alternatively, you can now have your car serviced at any VAT registered garage without breaking the terms of your warranty. Different manufacturers have different views on this, but largely they are playing fair with new UK laws. You must use manufacturer's parts.

About time

Its about time this new ruling came into effect. I'm sick of this rip off mentality.
It might be a good idea to publish the names of garages we use that do not rip you off.

I wonder if the new law also applies to secondary motorhome service. Most manufactures make mandatory rules about who can do this service, without voiding warranties.

Hi

It does seem a bit steep. My 2nd service on our last mhome which was a Peugeot much the same vehicle was £180 ish . total. Think we had a few extras ie wipers to carry in the locker. I would shop around but do make sure if its under warranty that you do it on time & with a fiat service garage.

Second Warranty Service

Hi Chris,
I am also from South Wales, and I am about to have my second warranty service with the dealer I bought my new vehicle from in Western-Super-Mare on Wednesday 25th May. I also have a Fiat Ducato 2 Lt TD. I will inform you of the cost on my return. However, I have to say that in January of this year, Victoria Garage, Hatfield Road Cardiff, were doing second warranty services. Whist I was there, a gentleman had his second warranty service completed for £225.00. Unfortunately, he informed me that this was only half of the service required. The other half the cab and casing of the vehicle, had to be done seperately, which I believe he had to pay a further £180.00. So he had to have two services? I can only report on what he told me. Sorry if this is not much help to you. However, I will get back to you after my second service.

Regards Mal Davies

I think you mean the seperate habitation and `normal` Fiat/Merc/Vw service. The agent probably could not do one or the other, ie Fiat dealer does not do habitation services, in December a well known dealer near the A1 / A17 junction charged me 511 for both, thats with a 10% discount for being a gold card member. You might have problems with next years MOT, not all garages can accommadate a MH weight/height sometimes requires a search or a query on here.

Sorry Mal BUT YOU DO PAY TWICE AT WARRANTY TIME. cOST US JUST OVER £3OO last year for the both. Pecader 3A'S FOR HABITATION THEN sT.dOGMAELS FOR THE CAB. Hubby and his brother made it a night away by booking a local campsite as I was working.

This warranty lark on new vehicles is a scam. 3 yrs free warranty. You must be joking. They get that money back off us in servicing costs.

Servicing

Hi, I'm ChrisGog's cousin.

Yes, they quoted me £460 for 2nd service! Because we've only done around 7,000 miles so far they've agreed to do a low mileage service which is around £150, but said they would have to do a full service next year which will cost £460!

I've looked at the Aftercare Fiat book, according to that 2nd and 4th year services take 4 hours, which is why the cost is bumped up. I'm going to ring around other fiat dealers tomorrow to double check! They have quoted me £66 plus VAT per hour for labour.

Just another thought, the van will be 3 years old in June next year. So that's the end of the 3 year warranty, I wouldn't have to be tied to a Fiat garage?

M/home servicing

Rang around the Fiat garages this morning. Cardiff Fiat only do m/homes up to 20ft and can only book in on a Saturday, their 3 year service would be around £400. Bristol Fiat are around the £460-£500 price, however they did advise me that in the 2 years service (if it was a commercial van) or 3 year service if it is a motorhome it's about 4 hours work. They take the wheels off to give a hands on break check, they check all the belts and replace the break fluid, as well as the filters oil change etc. They charge £70 plus VAT per hour! Swansea Fiat charge £66 plus VAT per hour for labour.

However, Cardiff Fiat advised me of Dragon Truck & Van in Cardiff. They are Fiat approved so any servicing or recalls can be done with them and you'll still be ok for your warranty. Low mileage service is around the £160 mark and the 3 year big service would be around £300. They only charge £50 for their labour including VAT! I know where I'm going next year! I think they do MOT's as well.

Just like to inform people of the varying costs of warranty services. The site went down yesterday so jumped on MMM site and had some interesting responses.
These are the varying prices I have received for 1st year fiat service:-
£250, £215 and my own was about £140 last Sept.

Second year
£460, £140, £285,
(non-franchised dealer £138)

Peugeot boxer 2.2 hdi was £145 for 1st year
£145 second
£250 third

Apparantly Fiat set service items and man hours but the dealer sets labour charges and these are not really monitored.

I am still astounded by these crazy prices and how they are getting away with this. Maybe motorhome manufactures should look at this when making our vans.
Fiat are too popular for the manufacturer but fiat must sell to them cheaply knowing full well they will get it back from us in service charges.

Hi Chrisgog,
I think you misunderstood my comments.
I am aware that the two services are seperate, in my case as I had some warrenty work on the body fibreglass left from the previous year to be completed it was as well to have both done at the same time with the selling dealer, it involved a 200 mile round trip!
The job ended back at the factory (Autotrail) as they refused to accept the quotation from the dealer, the even collected from my home rather than pay the dealers prices! But thats another story.i
If there is work under the warrenty at the selling dealers expense/liabilaty, another dealer or garage would not usually be interested as the costs could not be recouped.
If you ask for a low milage service in the second year the cost quoted to me recently by a main Fiat dealer was £169. At year 3 dont forget its time to change brake fluid and additional items so it would add to the cost. In saying this I would agree that the costs at main dealers are expensive, but be wary, if like me you have an extended warrenty (5 years) read the small print. This sometimes does not take into account the recent changes in the EEC law! They catch you all ways.
