Dartford Bridge Speed Cams?

2204 Views 9 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  Briarose
I have just been informed that SPEC average speed cams apparently recently erected on the QE Bridge M25(Essex to Kent) go "live" in the very near future, possibly this weekend. The camera's are situated on the gantries above the road, one set being just before the start of the bridge and the other on the last gantry before the tolls. The bridge is subject to a 50 mph limit but very few drivers stick to that, so this could be a very high revenue earner.

I have not been over the bridge in the last few weeks so can't verify the information at this time, but I will make enquiries and post here with my findings, in the meantime stick to the 50 limit to be on the safe side.

Hi Doug

I have heard that the cameras were supposed to go live last tuesday, but all this week the "Cameras not in use" sign has been displayed

....another Doug
Excellent, about time something was done to slow down the numpties. Remember, SPECS cameras are installed in arrays of three and only two are switched on at any one time. If they are the original type then they cannot track you if you change lane, but as you don't know which of the sets is switched on when do you change lane? The new type can track you across lanes.
Also on the QE bridge the signs do say keep in lane and there is another offence if you change lane.
Gerry
Gotta agree with Gerry, this is a good use of bad technology, trying to get into the correct lane is a nightmare if you don't use the bridge often enough to be familiar with it.

I prefer Specs as an instrument of traffic control, much fairer then either Gatso or Truvelo, and it's a laugh watching the morons who don't realise how it works, plus i n ow have crusie control.

Kev.
Hi We cross the Bridge fairly frequently on our way back from Ely to Sussex, and at times, it's like the "whacky races", so perhaps it will bring some order back on the Bridge. I hope it sorts out the lane jumping, as well,as this is half the problem, it requires better and bolder signage. We wait with bated breath!!! Andy
What really needs sorting at the tunnel is at the north bound tolls.
I think there are something like 13 booths and frequently only one tunnel open so 13 lanes of traffic have to squeeze into two lanes of tunnel about 100 yards after leaving the booths - you need to do a course of vintage Le Mans starts to get your place! :)
And coming out of the tunnel the other end it's like a shot gun blast. :)
Dartford Crossing speed limit

  Blimey, the dozens of times I've crossed that bridge, the chance to get up to 30 MPH would have been a fine thing!
saluti,

I can honestly say that crossing Dartford on our way to Portugal and back, was probably the worst two bits of the whole journey. Going down was a nightmare and we were stuck in queues for so long it added ages onto our journey.........good job we were booked on the tunnel next day rather than that evening.

We said coming back when you see how organised alot of foriegn routes are we wonder what alot of the foriegn lorry drivers make to it all.
