Hi All,
We are due to set off in two weeks for a Baltic states trip - expecting 7 weeks or so. Has anybody crossed into Lithuania by road? My reason for asking is that both the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and the Lithuanian Embassy websites say that a Green Card is required. My insurance is certainly valid, and Lithuania are signed up to the scheme whereby a Green Card is not supposed to be needed - but never-the-less, it appears to be a requirement. Last time I asked my insurance company for one (SAGA) they said we don't do them any more, since we only extend cover to countries where they aren't required. Confirmation of required cover is on the back of your Certificate - that should suffice - they said. However, I'm not sure I'll be lucky enough to get a border guard who speaks Spanish, French or Italian!
Has anybody been over the Lithuanian Border by road, and if so did you need a Green Card?
Hi Rick, I'm sorry to see you didn't get a lot of replies as this is a place I'm interested in. In the process of planning a trip next year through the Balkans and up to Scandinavia, so any information on your trip will be grateful. I believe to call in to the small russian state at Kaliningrad a visa is required which you have to pay for but all the rest of the Balkans are no problem.
Has anyone else been to these countries and help out with information?
Derek
I'd be interested in that journey too. I'm afraid that you are confusing your "Bs" though darach. The Balkan states are those that loosely formed the old Yugoslavia. I assume you are referring to the Baltic states that border the Baltic sea. You might have ended up with some strange suggestions re possible itineries.
I have been in touch with the Lithuanian Embassy, and a Green Card is definitely a requirement. I've managed to collect quite a lot of information on Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia, so if anybody has any specific questions I'll try to help. Probably best answer when we get back though!
And Derek is quite right - a visa is required to enter Kalingrad. I don't intend going there on this trip. I've been into Russia, and the visa process is less than simple. Mind you, we were going to a very sensitive border area,
