Another one for you!

how do you go about getting the best ferry deal? last minute - book ahead - turn up?

would be using portsmouth/poole or plymouth either to france or spain - are there any bargains to be had with brittany ferries - also 8.6m motorhome!

thanks again

Ask Mr Google what he knows about "Cheap Ferries".

Easy! :D :D

Bargains - with a motorhome - Brittany Ferries - all in the same sentence - even the dog is laughing.

You might get a better fare at ww.ldlines.com

Better still, as your van has the same facilities as a ferry - ie cooker, loo, sink, bed etc etc, there is no need to spend money sleeping in their cabins etc. Use your own and go Dover-Calais for as little as £63 return with www.poferries.com

I know there are more miles to drive, but I looked at overnight ferries and the prices do not balance the extra miles.

I agree

I booked LD Newhaven LeHarve last year not a bad deal. Particularlyas we live 15 mins drive from N/hvn. This year however Ld are much more expensive. We are booked Dover Calais £75 7m MH ( Arto)
ok so TAG axle + brittany ferries does not = bargain!!!

But thought it was worth a try - somone might have found a way in somewhere!lol!

I did do some maths re fuel, guestimating extra wear n tear on me & MH for drive to shorter crossings and still think the slow float over with cabin seems better. But it is a heck of a drive both sides before you even start the journey south through france!

I've got 'down' to £500 september with 2 adults, child, dog, 2 cabins and 8.6m this is less that i paid with car/caravan!

One last thing - what do they do with the dog on the ferry? how does it relieve itself and how does it eat/drink? are they allowed in cabin? CAn i get access to him?

thanks

FOCL
I second Russel/Rapide561
P&O ferries Dover Calais.
We used them over easter and managed to get £100 return (7.5m van), on way out we went and had breakfast on the ferry, on the way back we stayed in the van, you're barely at sea for an hour.... Yes I know there are possible safety implications but often on that crossing you're on the upper car deck that is actually open at the back. Plus we travelled to Dover the evening before and parked on the promenade for free (it's legal, look up wild camping sites) and got the 6am ferry out. No worries about making the ferry then.
Will definitely do it again.
We don't have a dog (yet) but I wouldn't leave the poor thing alone in the motorhome on the ferry with peoples car alarms going off because they don't read the notices not to set them.
For info, best price and cheapest eurotunnel crosssing for same dates we travelled was double the ferry price, that's a lot of diesel!

£500. Seems a lot to me, I can do Valencia to Torbay return via Dunkerque/Dover for less than that. Ferry and diesel included.
Sea France were good for me.

Back in November I booked two Dover Calais (return) crossings

Next week £58 return and in August £72 return, both crossings with a 6m Hymer

Very difficult to beat that I reckon, but I did book a long time ago. I have checked the respective prices regularly ever since and they have just slowly crept up to the current level.

As Fred Pontin used to say "Remember, book early!!" (Now that shows my age doesnt it ??)
