i have just replaced the gear knob on my fiat due to it shooting of and not staying on , the spring goes on first then the knob , the spring is there to enable the reverse gear lift up part to spring back down when you come out of reverse gear , if you no what i mean :?:

Hi, can anyone help with this? The knob came off my 2005 hymer fiat gearlever halfway up the A1 (painful). The fitting had shattered and I bought a replacement recently. The replacement kit contains a spring along with the knob, but I can't figure out where the spring goes (there didn't seem to be a spring before unless it shot out with the knob and is lost.

Yes, it's a trifle bemusing when it 'comes orf in yer 'and' and that spring pings away into the nether regions of your vehicle, isn't it?
To get a replacement, you bimble along to your local FIAT dealership's parts department, slap the broken one on the counter and say "One of those, please!" The guy then shuffles off, as they do, comes back eventually with the box, regards his computer and says "That'll be £25.23." You say "HOW MUCH!! Mumble mumble grizzle, oh soddit... pay." You convey your precious cargo back to your vehicle, fit the spring, and gently but firmly biff the knob on to the gear lever with a rubber mallet.
This information goes back to 1st May 2007, and so far it has stayed put.

i got mine from the local fiat dealer but the price was £35 :evil:
Thanks for that I will be down there later on today. We still have the spring though, just need the gear knob. It came of going round a roundabout in Glastonbury :roll: we had to stop on double yellows in a narrow road to refit it. What a nightmare managed to get home though.
