Getting fed up waiting for parts

11377 Views 337 Replies 13 Participants Last post by  JanHank
Goodness only knows when Auto-Trail will send the parts and the devil only knows when they will get here so I´m back to thinking it may be wise for me to get another van, howsomever which make.
There is no other van this side of the water like my Navajo, all have fixed beds for a start cutting down on my daytime space, I can´t find one with flat flooring, the ones I have seen all have steps inside and steps up to the beds at the back. It must be single beds not a double. Does anyone have any ideas for me? My licence covers C1, but I don´t want a bus, just a 2 berth motorhome. Any tips please.

This is the Navajo layout.

Ah so the camera floating around on your screen was the phones screen? Wouldnt worry about it then.

An email received at 3.24am this morning, now that surely didn`t come from the UK more like the USA Says San Francisco at the bottom. Unfortunately he didn`t send the model, I have asked him to do so now. The long delay was obviously because of time differences.

Dear Janet, it is not clear to me the doubt that your specialist has to perform this uninstallation, you will see in this model, the door is held by pins on the sides that must be completely removed from the inside and removed, it is likely that over time they become clogged and should be applied marine formula or a lubricant such as wd40, but no doubt they are only pins and there should not be any problem to remove, however if for some reason you have doubts, please send me a video to see what is making it difficult to remove, or if you want I could recommend a specialist of my confidence near you that works with these cars, kind regards. Sebastian.

The problem with the give me your money and I'll tell you the answer web sites is, most are based in North America, very often they are answered by people with little practical knowledge but do have access to copious amounts of manuals and technical literature.
Unlikely to find someone in America with any practical knowledge of a UK (or EU) built motorhome.
I'm sure your man will have sufficient practical skills to work it out.

Another bit is done, he has sprayed the repaired side, I went to have a look because he sent me a picture and it looked a bit strange, the reason being it is so bright and shiny the reflections from boxes and stuff are showing up. Really it´s all the same and looks super.

Matthias phoned last night (he wasn`t there when I took this photo yesterday). The door is a temporary fix because there was no fly screen in the package with the door so we need an alternative Fly screen. It looks as if it was not included with the price as what was first quoted is several a few pound more than what I paid I discovered.

I have changed the plan I had in my head because I don`t think it will be done in time for me to leave here on Wednesday next week and I am not going to rush off as soon as it`s done, I need to pack and test everything first. At least I can see light at the end of this very long tunnel now.

Starting to look much better now.
Matthias phoned today, not to worry about the Fly screen because the German ones will fit. I hadn`t paid for one so thats OK. He has discovered I need new hoses on the gas tanks so they will be done. I have just spoken to Roger and he is coming Easter Weekend to check everything for me 😁 👍 . Oh how I love being spoilt.

My two are having a lovely time planning the bedroom & shower in the big room. I think it will forever be called the garage.

That's looking really good Jan. Do you think you might make the meet you'd intended? I'm in Leiden ATM but will be in this area for about a week.

Maybe you haven`t read my post above yours Jean, I am not going because it`s too tight and Roger will be here Easter weekend to check everything out. I will leave here a week late, on the Wednesday after Easter, go to Hanover, then Maastricht and down through Luxembourg into France Where I may be meeting another man friend, Alan who came to be with me when Hans died, we have been in touch on WhatsApp video, but haven`t seen each other since then. There will be more meetings I can go to, but maybe next year I won`t be able to go to France.

At the end of this week it should be back, but now I have another problem, for the past week the shoulder I dislocated in 2019 has been causing a lot of trouble, it´s getting worse and keeping me awake at night, if it gets so bad I can`t change gear thats going to be a big problem. Last Thursday the doctor took me off the Arcoxia I have taken for my arthritis for years and gave me Ibuflam instead and that`s doing nothing to stop the pain or stiffness. I`ve had a little problem now and then with the shoulder in the past, but it goes away, this time it`s pretty bad so may need attention from a professional meaning cancelling my trip for the time being. Yesterday I started to do exercises with the Australian physio on the internet that I discovered last year, hopefully they will help, just thought I would mention it so if I don`t go just yet you will know why.

Bugger. So good news thwarted by bad news! You need some good luck!

Would the Dr consider putting you back on what apparently worked? Just to see if it's that that made the difference?

Nothing worked Jean, the Arcoxia was doing nothing so I have cortisone and Ibuflam, I am not going to tell you what’s happening since this morning, don`t want to put the Kibosh on it.:)
I don´t think I will get away for at least another week. Heike and I went to see the van today, I had a little tear because it looks so new and shiny, however there was another problem because he found a cracked gas hose and a new one has to come from England because the fittings are all different, he is also waiting for a flyscreen, the TÜV / MOT was done today, I guess it past because he hasn`t said it didn´t and I imagine he will come back to check the gas next week when the new hose should be here and the flyscreen as well. He will then clean it inside and out and it´s ready. One thing I am very pleased about that has nothing to do with the fire, he has put my electric connection in a place I can easily reach, the place where it used to be was very good when you can easily bend down to plug in underneath the flap, now I just have the connection on the outside like most have.
Forgot to say about my shoulder Jean one minute I think it´s on the mend and then it`s not, tonight it feel a lot more relaxed, but in the morning I perhaps won`t be able to move it without the help of my other are, I try sleeping all ways, even sitting up, but in the morning it´s always very painful to move. Hopefully it will go in just as mysterious way as it came.

So close but no cigar!! Oh well your nearly there and another week your shoulder might have improved. Fingers crossed.

It pays to tell people how you really are, this morning I met a Berliner who has a weekend house in the village, we always stop and have a chat, this morning when she asked how I was I told her about my shoulder, I didn´t know that she is a physiotherapist. As the trouble started overnight she says it isn´t the actual shoulder, but muscles between the shoulder blades that are causing the trouble, I must have laid in an awkward position. She told me what exercises to do and believe it or not after a few hours and periodically doing a stretch or two it doesn't feel as painful, I still don´t have the full range without pain, but fingers crossed I will get there in a few days so I can then get away at the end of the week.
