Hi guys how are you doing? I'm sure your probably all out enjoying this lovely weather.

What a great website. We are four young lads (all around 23) who are looking to get into the campervan world.

We have managed to club together a few grand (about 3.5/4) and we are currently looking to get away on our first trip which will be to serbia and eastern europe this summer.

We can't decide whether it is best to buy a motorhome, or convert a van.

We had this great LDV in mind which had extra crew cab seating and a fantastic luton but unfortunately someone snapped it up before we couldn't get down to see it.

From reading up on the forums, it appears that we might struggle to find insurance, it'll be ok.

Another thing that we were thinking of getting was a iveco 49-10 (the disabled bus that alot of councils use) and converting it. We don't know whether we would be able to drive this with our post 1997 Standard car licenses?

Thanks

Not on YOUR standard licence - the older ones, yes, but many of the Iveco's, especially a disabled bus will be slightly over 3.5t which is your limit!

You will mainly be looking at a high top conversion - or a very light/basic c-class which might be just over 3t - you will have to watch what you load though! It wouldn't take a lot of gear to go over weight. You would not be able to tow anything with it as your train weight cannot exceed 3.5t either!

There are plenty of good conversions out there, for your budget you will be looking at something early 80's for a c-class, or you could go down the high top route and go for a VW, Older Fiat etc, preferably with an awning that you could use for extra space if you all wanted a lads holiday away! It would be easier to park and get around in and you wouldn't really have to worry about hieght too much as most are just under average bridge height.

Hi guys,

take a look through our adverts section:

http://www.motorhomefacts.com/modules.php?name=Classifieds

For the money your looking to spend concentrate on a coachbuilt, big enough to cater for your needs without going over the weight limits of your licence

I wouldn't bother converting a van, for your age group IMHO insurance will be hard to get for home built  Of course, you could just buy a ex-builders van and take a portable gas stove, portable loo and some blow up mattresses :)

But why bother when for the money you have available there are some nice cared for 1980's motorhomes around.

Good luck with what you plan, hope it works out for you and your mates :D

MHS...Rob :D
