Hi Charlie and welcome.

We're all friends here and look forward to your contributions to the discussions.
The East Riding has a foot of snow to contend with this morning I hear. Hope you are not personally too badly affected.
One of our contributers fancies living around Pocklington. Tell her what it can be like in winter on the Wolds.

Hi,
yep we have at least a foot of snow, its looks beautifull here,
regarding living in East Yorkshire, you cant beat it, I am a "wessie" born & brewed in Leeds, moved to London then York, Now Driffield, and wont move again its great, Although a little cut-off geographically from civilisation. We were going to move from York to Pocklington, but by chance looked a little further and were struck by Driffield, Proper little town, facilities, shops, food, etc... but its so nice & quiet and countryside/fab views minutes away, prob with Pocklington now is its just a little mini-York, which is what we wanted to escape
Regards
Charlie

PS dont suppose ill get much done on Benny Today!!!

Hi and welcome. I think, as I have said elesewhere you are probably in one nicest parts of the country and also blessed with loads of sites along the east coast. When we moved to the NW we had to re educate of attitude to booking, However you do get more snow and wind than us, dont miss that.

actually melbourne is looking promising, thinking about buying a boat!!
only about a good downpour from the Derwent!, and right on the canal.
as for weather, we don't do snow at all where we are, really - best we usually get is a heavy frost, so will have to re acclimatise.
but, at least you can get proper fish n chips , particularly like stamford bridge, or if feeling really piggish Inghams in Filey
course best of the lot is Kristians on North Shields fish quay -

From dictionaries:-
A plain, or low hill; a country without wood, whether hilly or not.
wold n : a tract of open rolling country (especially upland)

And from his further bank (AE)tolia's wolds espied. --Byron
The wind that beats the mountain, blows more softly round the open wold. -- Tennyson.

It is a word used elsewhere. There is the area known as the Lincolnshire Wolds and here in Leicestershire there is the village of Burton on the Wolds.

Hi twooks

Was supposed to meet a friend of mine at the mh show at Driffield last year but Mother was admitted to hospital. However my friend said it was a very small version of Peterborough 8)

Hope to go this year [but not telling anyone here yet then I will get away! ] may see you there.

The wolds are best seen on the signposted scenic drive to Bridlington. Have you ever seen the view from the top of Garrowby Bank on the A166 across the Vale of York. Wonderful. :D :D

Thanks for the info girls,
have driven along the A166 a few times but not sure which is Garrowby Bank, will pay more attention next time. That's one of the really great advantages of driving in van, you get a much much better view. :D
will try and have a trip to driffield if we are over there then, will let you know if it's definitely on :D

if you've travelled the A166 you will know Garrowby Hill (not Bank!!) you have to hit 2nd and hope you dont need to dig for another gear. A great game we play on clear days is count the number of power stations you can see from the lay-by at the top

Hello cjt_racing just had a look at your website and must praise you on your project. I am sure the motorhome will look wonderful when you have completed it. Full marks for perserverance [sp?]. :D

I too was 'wesssie' born and bred and moved to North some 30years ago. Often visit Driffied - but usually stay on the east coast at Atwick - made some good friends there so have to go visit! :)

Thanks for the feedback Sealady, I am glad its now into the "home run" did think during the 3 months "what have I started here???" but its nearly there, I will say its been a good experience and should mean I can fix anything that goes wrong-should do as I built it, It will have to wait till spring/summer before I can give it a full re-spray though so untill then everyone will spot its "different" colour scheme.

I know Atwick ( attic) very well , well the bits that havent fallen in the sea yet, & hopefully "Benny will be seeing most of that part of coastline this year as its now so close to me,
Speak soon

Eur reeight warm welcome ta thee. Ah'm goan t'yorkshie an Lancs i'mi motorhome this weeken. Does thee av enny tips for us wee southern jessies ? :)

This site http://www.whoohoo.co.uk/yorkshire-translator.asp is really good for learning local lingo. It worked for a treat for Birmingham, lost without it.

Drifter
dohh, Birmingham's not in Yorkshire, not even in west Yorks, which doesn't really count does it - being so close and all to Lancashire :violent3: ?

Whereabouts are you thinking of heading and for how long?
Dales are always good for a stay, also York [cc year round site is handy, if a bit wet occasionally- and full] CC also has year round site at Grange [yes- it's Lancastrian! - ask Dodger if you don't believe me] and Wirral can be good.
You'll have a good time as long as you don't mention Arsenal probably! :mumum:
except in Middlesbrough of course!
