Grateful if someone could advise on the following points for me.

Which is the best turbo diesel?

Is column change common place or not?

Is it legal, moral, environmentaly acceptable to empty porta potties in a public loo?

What is considered to be a balance between comfort and space versus ability to be able to drive and park in most places?

Is wild camping asking for trouble or by using some common sense OK.

What is the percentage additinal costs over a car when using the tunnel?

Are extra security locks and\or additonal alarms advisable.

Is having a limited slip diff essential?

Is it really worth buying second hand abroad rather than in UK?

No rush but many thanks in advance for your time and trouble.

Which is the best turbo diesel? German - its not a requirement to have one, its something else to go wrong

Is column change common place or not? Does it matter as long as it works?

Is it legal, moral, environmentaly acceptable to empty porta potties in a public loo? Common sense required, don't use anti green chemicals if disposing in spetic tanks

What is considered to be a balance between comfort and space versus ability to be able to drive and park in most places? Not sure what your asking, or is it several questions mixed up?

Is wild camping asking for trouble or by using some common sense OK. Common sense is obviously required

What is the percentage additinal costs over a car when using the tunnel? It all depends on the size of your van and the length of string your using, need to shop around each time.

Are extra security locks and\or additonal alarms advisable. Depends where your parking it and the size of your investment

Is having a limited slip diff essential? Why on earth do you need an lsd for, thinking of offroading your van? I live in the sticks and really wild camp, and I survive without one. Your better off without one, that's if you can find one as you'll get deeper in trouble with one and probably damage all the equipment under your van

Is it really worth buying second hand abroad rather than in UK? Depends if you find a bargin, depends if you prefer lhd, depends what your looking for.

Really speaking your questions are far to broad, MH's fall in to all sorts of class's. Bit like trying to give advice on apples and onions. What sort of budget are we looking at £10K £20K £30K £40K £50K skies the limit ?

Pusser - a rum type of person I guess :?:

my only addition to Steve's response is to point out that the position of gear stick [and hand brake] is relevant from the point of view of access between cab and living area, otherwise it's your preference. - but getting the bits of metal out of the way is becoming more popular. We've gone from Fiat - dash to VW - floor - and fiat is a better compromise for camper MH vehicles and presumably delivery vans too - otherwise they wouldn't've changed 8)

Many thanks for the help. Sorry my questions are a bit, "How long is a piece of string" but you need to know a little of what you are talking about to ask the right questions. It's just about here I fall down.

I was wondering, if you had the time, to explain to me your choice of Mercedes.

Also, I was interested in column change because in the sixties I had a Ford Zephyr Six with column change and although a bit tricky at times, I did like the concept. Is this available with Mercs?

Thanks again

I was a rummy person until I think '68/'69 when they stopped the tot. A sad day that was. RIP.

I think I am fast approaching a decision that I do need column change so I suspect that has now narrowed it down to one or two engines.

The newer Mercs have the now standard (apart from Ford) Dash mounted gear levers which are now the norm. Many peopel prefer the Merc cos of its reputation, but that comes at a price and IMO not worth the difference over a VW which I consider on a par. The number of Fiat/Peugeot vans 70% of the market laso tells a story - if they were bad people wouldnt buy them !!!!!!!!

The dash gear levers are a definite reqiuirement when you have had one
