Yes, we run a hairdrier off an inverter. Unless you have a large battery bank, I'd suggest limiting the hairdrier to 600-1000W, and get an inverter to match. Modified should be OK, even though a hairdrier is a motor and therefore an inductive load which can cause problems.

I have a small inverter for the laptop/tv. Couldn't you just hang your head out of the window to dry your hair? :D
