Kathreim Antenna

Hi,

Just got my hands on an old motorhome, a hymer s700 and it has a Kathreim diamond shaped dish/antenna which can be moved about from inside the van. As a complete newbie to this, can someone tell me what I can connect to this - is it a sat receiver or analogue aerial? Can I connect a digital sat. receiver to it to view free to air channels?I am located in southern Ireland.

Any advice welcome.

Hi Jake,

Depending upon the age of the satellite system, it may be analogue only, or if fitted with a universal LNB, it should be digital. It should be connected to a receiver, (if installed). Our 99 Hymer came with an analogue receiver which we ditched, and replaced with a digital one.

Click on Kathrein, click on "Planar Antennas", then click on BAS 60 or BAS 65, using the Union Flag to download the info.

We see a lot of MH's in France and Germany, using these Kathrein and Globesat dishes, but not many in the British Isles or Ireland.

HTH,

Jock.

Thanks Jock,

I'll get my hands on a digital receiver and try it out. If it is an analogue antenna, can I use the mountings on the roof to install a regular sat dish?

I too inherited a Kathrein Kit on my W Reg. C640. This had the Box and also the the TV.
I dumped the TV (a lump) and the Box (German- worked) and invested in a new Flat screen TV and a Maxview receiver. Also a Maxveiw Sat Finder ( Most Important!!!). The whole system works well now. I had a few frustrating times learning how to set the Dish as the correct angle, but Oh! the joy of success! A tip - wind the dish up fully, lower it about 2 turns. Find out where the Astra 2 Satelite is located (Maxview Compass). Turn the dish anti clockwise past that point and then come back onto it SLOWLY clockwise. Do this as the German "naughty" channel (as I call it!!!) is in a close proximity. My new aim is to get Sky comming through!!!
Best of luck,
Hovis
Thanks Hovis, Maxview equipment appears to be popular among members - will check it out.

I forgot to mention, that when you have located the Satellite, then turn the Dish SLOWLY left or right to fine tune, and then raise or lower the dish SLOWLY to fine tune again. having done it a few times, you become the master at it!!!
Hovis
I also have a Kathrein dish on my 1996 hymer i was told it was anologe got a digital free to air and a freeveiw box wired in and works perfect so plug on your sky box and try before you spend out on a new dish.
That interesting Wizza. There is a free to air sat system in Aldi locally tomorrow for just 90 euro so will give this a try. Will let the forum know what happens!

Hi Wizza,

Are you saying, that not only can you operate a "Free Sat receiver" from your dish, but that you can also operate a "Freeview" receiver from the same dish??? :?
Although both are digital, they are not the same system. 8O

Hi Wizza,

I've got you now, and no need to apologise. Technical terminology is so close these days, that sometimes we are not sure about what we can, and cannot receive. :?

Cheers,

Jock.
Hi jakefouro,

I've sent you a PM. I'm in Dublin, with a Kathrein, if I can be of any help.
