Hi

Have just be given a quote for a new CI Mizar by Safeguard/Cornhill. It is for myself and partner, both over 50 without recent claims and only one speeding fine. Inclusive of introductory no claims of 60% it is £379.

Does this seem about right or are there cheaper companies around.

Best wishes

Hi Alan,
Its about right for Safeguard, Mine is also with Safeguard but about £20 more but then I think with my goodies attached etc plus I think perhaps a more expensive MH although I'm only guessing here. I have been with Safeguard since obtaining a MH in 1996. I was thinking of changing but other quotes always seem to be dearer! Worth a try with 'Comfort' although Safeguard includes breakdown (though I have yet to use it, so can't comment on that). Also Alan it depends on your location.........some areas are more expensive than others.
regards

Hi AlanMo,

We are with Caravan Guard 0800 652 3696 maybe worth a call,we like them because you pay a basic sum and then choose extra add on's yourself if you want them, like european cover etc.

They have a motorhome section, you just leave your number, they call you back direct, saves being told how important your call is to them, while hanging on for half an hour.

We did have a bump a few years ago, they were excellent.

Hi Alan

I insure my Autosleeper with SafeGuard. I was pleased with the cost/cover and this year I have a protected no claims bonus with them. Interestingly since it is not only price that matters.....I have an ongoing claim for a damaged Awning at this very moment. the replacement awning, windows and work will cost around £800 and I am awaiting the go ahead for the repairs. They have dealt with the claim efficiently so far but the proof of the pudding will be how soon I can get the repairs done. I have a thread going at the moment relating the details, if you are not in a hurry to choose insurers the outcome may be interesting to you.

Thanks for your contact. MCIA have just quoted me £270 but I have to have a Cat 1 alarm. Don't really know what that involve/costs on the Fiat base. Also the Safeguard includes breakdown cover which gives peace of mind despite never expecting to use it!!!!

I had a Van Bitz Strikeback alarm fitted to the MH and it pages(text) my mobile phone if the alarm should go off, which I think is great, one doesn't have to worry about the distance as in the past with old pagers.

We're in process of getting insurance quotes at the mo. got 4 so far ranging from £569 to £1200(?????), Safeguard being the best.

Unfortunately am being penalised because I have a car insurance claim being dealt with at the mo and they all assume it will go against me until proven otherwise. Safeguard were still willing to give me 50% intro discount since I have maximum protected NCB on car.

M/H Insurance

Hi everyone, Insurance, well its certainly a minefield, we bought our van just over a year ago, our first, previously the wife had used motability vehicles for nine years, so I was only a nominated driver of said vehicles, therefor no insurance in my name.
When we bought our M/H we insured through Caravanguard, full comprehensive, due to the fact that they dealt through Royal and Sun Alliance, and although I had no previous insurance for the 9 years and was able to prove that no damage claims were involved over that period, they immediatly gave me a 50% discount, and a further discount as we had a tracker system fitted to our vehicle, first years insurance was £370, on our renewal of this year the premium dropped to £234 plus £10 for protected no claim bonus`s, so you takes your pick, but to us the company we are with is quite alright, also includes breakdown recovery, and you can add items as you need.
Our van by the way cost 30k and is a swift suntor 600s on a fiat chassis cab.

wow I know my van is not as costly as some of yours but I pay £309 for fully comp [incl monthly charge] and that is for the car as well, fully comp
with NFU
the van is slightly more than half the total cost
It has gone down again this year even tho I have had full ncb on both for 2 years. from £329 but that is the benifit of a mutual

8O We had this discussion about NFU on the old site. This is my 4th year with NFU. It went down every year until I changed to a different motorhome. Same size, same value. They now class me as a Commercial (?????????) and I can only drive the motorhome. I'm looking for a new company.

Thanks for excellent responses. I have eventually opted for Safeguard which was not the cheapest quote but I was impressed by their efficiency and approach over the phone. Also excess is low, AA breakdown (fingers crossed never to use it) included and other terms.

Best wishes
