We currently have a motability car with with just over 10 months left to go on the contract.

Due to fate taking a hand in things we are just about to take delivery of our MH and go full time and needed to end our contract early.

We rang Motability and I explained what we are doing and that traveling to the south of Europe is for my wife's benefit and health and blow me they just said yes thats fine and arranged a date to return the car to the dealer with no penalties in fact if the car was in good condition they would refund some money to us. BONUS!

So do you get the mobility component paid to you for the remaining 10 months of the contract if it is terminated by you early ?
The Motability is paid for out of the DLA and once the contract ends then the DLA is returned to normal payment.

The Motability Operations team are a very fair bunch, unlike some of the standard leasing companies on early termination.

As an example of how professional they are, I phoned them yesterday with a couple of questions regarding further modifications needed. They promised to phone back within half an hour. Ten minutes later, they not only phoned back, but had found a vehicle adaptation firm 7 miles away from me to do the work and gave me a choice of dates for the work to be done. Even better, the firm will come and pick the car up, modify it, and have it back to me same day.

One vote here for a superb team.

I suppose that early termination possibility must be considered when the original thing was set up as sadly, not all recipients could foresee that they would be around for the duration or in a fit state to continue to use the vehicle due to possible changes in their health and fitness.

So, probably this was considered when the Motability set up was initiated and it is good to see first-hand reports of their helpfulness. Their ringing back having provisionally made arrangements is probably due to some recipients not being in a fit state to make such arrangements and possibly ending up with incorrect adaptations at a higher cost.....

This is really good news because we might have to terminate ours early as we are about to buy a vat free M/H. The reason being that my BH (who is also my principal carer) is now working as a freelance consultant causing her to be away from home 4 days a week. We've overcome this by buying a M/H which is now fitted out to enable wild camping very near her various work places.
Spoke to HMRC and explained what & why we intended doing this. The chap I spoke was more than very helpful he took advice from a senior colleague who agreed that although it was for my BH's use it was essentially for my benefit & would be VAT free PROVIDED the adaptations were fixed & for the sole use of me the wheelchair user. The chap even suggested a wheelchair box fitted to the rear of the van would fit the bill
He reminded me that just putting a handle near the door, as some dealers have done, won't hack it I'm afraid.
