went away 3 week's ago first trip for 6 months down to symonds yat on the way had a few overheating problem's , would sit and cruise all day soon as we hit a big hill or above 60 on motorway temp started to climb ,decided to come back next day and starter went , got a tow start and got home 100 miles away very carefully .
took it to garage fixed starter over 2 week period they found fault on cooling fan supposedly causing overheating went out yesterday still overheating, going in tomorrow for head off, skim and pressure test .
that part is just unfortunate, the sweat is we're booked on ferry thursday am and meeting at amboise friday

try the radiator frist if it goes all day till you go up hill (works hard) it may be the rad.
it may save you some money

Don't worry, we'll save you a pitch.

Seriously, I hope your garage are on the ball, overheating is just what you don't want when you're off to the continent. With a bit of luck it'll be a simple fix, hope to see you Friday.
If it works all day then I don't think it is a head problem. The basic question is "when the temperature starts to rise does the fan kick in?"
the rad is a common fault with fiats the cores run side to side and block up see here for the cost of a new one
chapter
head definetly warped

spoke to garage this evening head definitely warped at engineers being skimmed they're confident i'll be back on road wed, but is that the engine overheated with the fan switch gone or warped head???, chicken and egg situation .guy at garage also noted possible rad problem and as chapter noted the link shows a new rad on next day delivery £46 cutting it fine now but will look at it when i get back from amboise
If you have your head skimmed you are throwing your money away, and if a garage is willing to do it without a pressure test, well they are having your pants off.

If your head needed skimming you would overheat all the time (After a few miles) and it would NOT cool down on the level, as it would be out of water, If you have water in your rad it is NOT a leak OR your head.

The three main causes of the symptoms you describe are 1, The radiator is
blocked and not allowing your water to circulate, 2. The Thermostat is on the blink, 3, Your electric fan is not kicking in.

All three are very easily checked and fixed.

Anyone else If you think your head is at fault, Check your water, If you have oil mixed in it, It COULD be your Head.

i agree completely .the blocked rad is very a common problem
tested

as i said there was a problem overheating, only high revving, stood with mechanic whilst he tested, put pressure fitting on header tank fitted adapter with 2 small chambers, filled these with a blue liquid which stated on the bottle, if diesel combustion gases were present would turn green, if petrol engine a different colour and sure enough ran fine for almost ten minutes then we stepped up the rev's and it turned green either a very fine crack or slight tear on gasket was the judgement, apparently when he had the head of he smoke blacked it and rubbed on the bench which showed up the distortion .
If i broke into a sweat i would go straight to the doctors.
