Yes G. That's how it used to be.

I thought that the trailer test had already been cancelled . A local firm to me no longer do trailer training and tests I think it was done to get more HGV drivers through there test.

I think pre 1997 drivers under 21 could not drive 'HGV' vehicles [except in certain circumstances such as in he armed forces ]

I think some care is required in making any assumptions to what "pre 1997 weight limits on a normal driving licence " actually means. A licence issued between June 1990 and December 1996 seems very similar to now is ??? Remember Grant Shapps is the guy who said Smart Motorways are safe and decided replacing GB with UK as the vehicle identifier was a priority.

Billy, the trailer restriction I was talking about was the reduction to 8250 gross.
