We are taking the Eurotunnel in the evening before heading off to Toulouse using Autoroutes. My plan is to drive until we are clear of Paris and then bed down for a few hours. I have read the warnings about using autoroute aires de service so has anyone any ideas as to what we might do or suggest places for the overnight stop. Thanks. harry

overnight South of Paris

You can of course avoid Paris, go round by Rouen instead, if you are heading basically for Toulouse.

We worked out it was half an hour longer.

Don't know about Aires around there, but no doubt the rest of you do . . .

Concur about going via Rouen - give Paris a miss this time (you wont regret it!!).

The route via Rouen is a mix of autoroute and N roads. Without consulting the Aires book, I am sure there are a few on the way.

Flo and I have stopped many times on autoroute aires and have never been 'bothered' by undesireables. We HAVE been advised to move to the lit area by the fuel station by the gendarmes on a couple of occasions though and once escorted off the autoroute to a car park adjacent to the police station in Venelles when were camped nearby on the way to Gap from Aix en Provence - and no toll to pay to leave the motorway!!!

As has been said before on here - if it doesnt feel safe to you then dont do it........... I have been stopping in Aires / Rastplatz's since 1972.....

If you want an Aire - check out the search facility here on MHF - its good!!!
good luck on your journey - fantastic scenery once you get south of Rouen.

I agree , we are going this way next week on way to Le Mans 24 hr race. going via paris is slighter quicker ,unless you hit traffic, and less hassle. Coming back from Le mans we are heading to a little site south of Paris.
