By your desscripttion i would say it may be a battery earth problem check battery terminals are tight

Oh yes I forgot about the engine to chassis battery strap, that stopped Fiat from coding a new key for my van ages ago, weird happenings can follow.

If you have jumper leads put one on an engine bolt and a chassis one, make sure they are clean to make good contact.

I had one of these fitted and left the old one in situ.
