Purchase of used German motorhome

Hello,
We are keen to buy a lightly used German motorhome, cannot run to a new one and figure the best place to buy one might be Germany. Any tips on where to start looking please? and any good experiences of using a German agency to source a good low mileage one please?

Only ever bought new from Germany so can't help on an agency but start looking on www.mobile.de
I reckon that used prices are likely to be higher in Germany than the UK ATM, much better selection to choose from there though. My advice would be wait until September if possible for the usual post-season glut. Exchange rates may have improved by then too.

No need for any agency, just browse the dealers for suitable vans then do a weekend trip to view, easy and cheap using Ryanair/Easyjet etc. Look through the "Importing" forum for advice on buying from Germany.

I bought 2 motor homes in the last seven years using MOBILE.DE and i find it to be a very good site. Great selection. Hope that helps.

Thanks Sundial - that was a great site, and really easy to use. I must get the old man on to it, especially since he actually speaks German, so will be able to read it rather than guesstimate!

Does anyone know of any equally good sites for France, Belgium or Holland? Anywhere close to get a LHD van really.

Hi. I sourced our Hymer from www.mobile.de and saved about a third on the equivalent used vehicle in the UK but that was in 2004 when the Euro was much weaker and when there were more bargains to be had on there.

There are some used Hymers on the Hymer website too: http://gebrauchte.hymer.ag/

Most German Traders include 19% vat in their price and this may be indicated by (MwSt. ausweisbar, 19%) in the advert. If you are vat registered in the UK you do not have to pay this vat to the dealer and so get the vehicle cheaper than the advertised price....many UK import agents don't tell you this and take a fat fee and pocket the vat!.

At the time I was looking I also had feelers out with some import agents. However, once I found my vehicle on www.mobile.de I told them I wasn't interested. One of them (Ken Davies from Buy European Direct) then contacted me back and offered to import and deliver the vehicle if he could keep the vat (I was not vat registered then). So that's what we did and he was abs brilliant and I would thoroughly recommend him to anyone, though he will ob charge a fee if he has to source the vehicle and deal with the payment and regn in the UK: I did this and it was very easy. His details are below. We still have the Hymer with the kph speedo and just put on LHD to RHD beam converters to get it through the mot. I had to swap the fog light over to the right.

Hope this helps.
