Opera says it can save you 90MB a month. It's something, yes, but isn't really going to make any difference, is it? I have it up years ago cos it was slow.

I always thought it compressed pages by 90% so it should be way more than that but I must admit Ive not tested it for many years. Maybe those figures are out of date. Its from 2016

Surprisingly only 1.9% of mobile users have it.

Interesting Dick. Personally, I don't need to economise on data as I never use 5% of my allowance. But we could always benefit with a little more speed.

Might just try Opera.

You would have to have it on which ever machine you are using to browse. So if the phone is the hot spot and your using it on the laptop you need opera on the laptop. Whether it still saves a chunk of data remains to be seen but years ago when I had it on my phone it certainly did.

Ah as I thunk I suppose the test is how much it use on Opera V Chrom for the same down load, not sure how one would qauntify it though.

I doubt downloads will make any difference as in downloading files etc. I think it's rendering web pages on the fly when browsing. I suspect these days most peoples usage will massively be streaming or downloading programs. The only way you can reduce data usage for streaming is to reduce the quality / Resolution. Most sites don't give you this option. YouTube does. Don't know if Opera would have any ability to do this on a stream.

Started using Opera on my phone and set it as the default browser. It's OK but does not seem as fast as Google. Especially when accessing mhf topics.
It always takes me to the first post and then I have to select the latest post with can take more time. Then if I go back on the thread I end up at first post again.

Just tried to reply on the phone using Opera Jean. No go as it now wants me to sign in again and I can't even 'like' on the phone as I could with Google.
So I guess it was an interesting trial but now I will revert to the well tried and tested version.

Use the full version on Opera Mini Ray. You get the proper full site and the data savings.

I can't be doing with the mobile version of MHF.

I always found Opera mini slightly slower than Chrome but then if its compressing data before it displays it then perhaps thats why.

Resurrecting this thread to ask what EE coverage is like in out-of-the-way places in France, Spain and Portugal, my usual stomping ground.

Also, do we know the fair usage policy for the Popit sim?

You can use all your data allowance while away. You are due to fair usage while roaming and your phone call should be cut off after 2 hours per call, but then you would be able to make another call right away.

EE Was Orange Jean, and in the past I found Orange was well served all over Europe even in remote places

Just ordered the Popit sim which allows you to use all of your data package in the EU.I don't know why they have a cut off for calls. I think it is the best deal available at the moment for larger users.......also I presume as it is a UK sime that it will allow you access UK TV
I'll let you know about coverage after our trip.Can't see why it would differ much from the other providers.There will always be those out of the way isolated places where people have no internet (and probably 6 fingers )

We use the English speaking provider here called Lobster, 12 Euros a month and 55GB and it uses Movil masts so pretty good signal coverage.
In England it works as well so must switch to one of the other providers there.

We looked at the Lobster deal but I thought it was only available in Spain and for Spain.
Are you saying you get full data to use in UK ?
What about rest of EU....any hidden fair use clause.
