We looked at the Lobster deal but I thought it was only available in Spain and for Spain.
Are you saying you get full data to use in UK ?
What about rest of EU....any hidden fair use clause.
I thought there was EU legislation prohibiting charging for roaming within the EU for SIMs issued in the EU. Wasn't it one of the great benefits of brexit that our British telecoms providers could go back to charging the furringers?

Where did the post I did this morning go?!

(Just found it!)

Looking at the Popit SIM after the debacle with Virgin who were sold to me as running on Vodafone but actually, since the day I bought it apparently, run on O2. That explains the somewhat poor connection I have at home. And it also leaves me with both SIMs in my phone running on the same carrier which is a bit silly.

See here for their plans
Our Plans – Lobster

There is one that's Spain only, the others you can wander. I just wonder if there's small print somewhere that says you can't wander for too long? As a UK provider gets twitchy if you're away more than 63 days.

Also, I wonder can you stop and start the SIM?

I can't see any mention of use thoughout EU in the Lobster deal............but I can see they are offering "triple data" at the moment.
From February 2023 their 120gb package for €18 goes down to 40gb and even their Spain only deal goes down from 55 to 18gb.So no good for us even if it can be used across the EU.At least they're clear and upfront about it.
So back to Popit.....................any other competitors for best sim ????

Actually I didn't really look very hard about use in the EU,because when their "triple data deal " ends it's not really good value.
Plus I think you can only buy the sims in Spain........but again I might be wrong.;)

I read somewhere else that the Popit sim can be parked for just 80p/month - that sounds pretty good. I suppose you'd have to activate it before leaving the UK but after that 1st time, on future trips you should be able to bring it onstream again only when required?

So you could continue to use your normal sim till its cap was reached then bring in the Popit. I might get 2 months abroad for 1 month of Popit - say 2wks Virgin, 4wks Popit then another 2 weeks Virgin.... The Virgin would be paid for throughout.

The Popit sim seems like a good deal because being a UK sim you wouldn’t have to worry about VPN if you want to stream stuff.

Don't know the ins and outside of every streaming service but even with a UK SIM you can't stream IPlayer/live TV, watch major sports events or even buy a UK lottery ticket without using a VPN whilst out of the UK

Yes I can confirm there is an 80p monthly charge to "park" the Popit sim.
Jean I think you're being deceived again.........................that's all what they say in the large print and somewhere it will say subject to our fair usage policy see this page

I think you might be referring to the line 'Data caps help you stay in control of your data usage'? I know Virgin have a cap on data spend abroad - perhaps that's what is referred to.

I have in writing from them that I can use the entire 50GB in EU, and also the data rollover works there too.

I think I'll do my next trip with this SIM see how I get on. Of course part of my problem is that O2 reception at home isn't all that great. But if I could get piggy-backing on to nearby WiFi (I've a ticket opened for that) - I suspect that may be similar to the old FON system - then that could solve my problems 🤞

I'm referring to the lines on that page and others "With Roam Like Home, you can use your mobile wherever you go in the EU and pay no more for your texts, data and minutes than you would in the UK (subject to our fair usage policy).
I'd certainly check for weasly words.......for example.......yes you can use all your data abroad but once you go over our fair usage policy you'll pay just like you would in the UK.....subject to our helpful spending cap of £51 ????
I'm not questioning you but the companies, who since Brexit have turned the landscape into the Wild West rather than the Sunny Uplands.
Let us know......................50gb abroad would be enough for us

I also have it in writing re Popit -

"Hi Jean, many thanks for your email, the SIM card does need to be activated in the UK first and we do have the options available to put your SIM card in dormant for a small fee of 80p per month :)"

And on enquiring if there was any limit to the number of months you could park the SIM he says "you can keep your SIM card in for many for 6 months per time :)" - so I think you can park it for up to 6 months.

I've just asked him can you 'unpark' it while in EU or do you have to do that in UK.
