Sitting up in bed & those pesky Seitz blinds

1636 Views 4 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  bigfoot
This must be a problem to a lot of motorhomers as it seems an awful lot of vans have transverse beds with the head end located where the window is. Why do they do that - it's obviously going to be a problem??

I've tried padding it out with three pillows to prop myself up and lessen the load on the blind but this is only marginally successful, a proper solution would be mini headboard coming half way up the window or (and I'm sure I've seen these) some horizontal bars that fit across the blind cassette.

It needs sorting because either I'm going to have to give up reading in bed or the blinds are going to get permanently buggered :(

Anyone got a solution to this??

Oooh someone did some perspex with holes in half way up the window thought was very ingenious. We having same problems as boys are kicking the blinds during the night or getting too close with the pillows. They don't read in bed fortunately its during the night.

Can't remember who did it now but it had a pic with it and was very clever. Am sure someon will be along shortly with the linkage.

Hi Stephen,

Yes we have the same problem on our Coachmen Concord. I got round the problem eventualy by taking the blinds out completely and making up a "headboard" out of foam rubber covered in material that closely matches the bed cover. Fits nicely into the window compartment (semi-permanently).
Reduces the daylight somewhat, but luckily We have a large rear window.
Not sure if my blinds are Seitz blinds as it's an RV but the problems the same. They are concertina type thingys.

I have seen some conversions, mainly Continental models, which have a hinged support so you can sit up in bed. I bought some wedge cushions in Thailand which I use, they are long and trangular in section. I have seen them here in Oriental stores. One that springs to mind is in Oxford market, but they won't be as cheap as Thailand.
