Hello everyone.

I have been on this site for a few days now, some very interesting info about it. I'm taking my very first motorhome trip soon and I'm heading down to Italy. The problem I have is the first day, I get off the boat at Calias at 815pm, now I found (by searching this very forum) a camp site down in Ypres called Camping Jeugdstadion Ieper.

But I don't know if they or anyone else will take me at that hour in a motorhome? Would take me over an hour driving from calais to Ypres (might be well over as my first time in Belgium) So will they take me or should I go wild? and is there any safe wild places around that area?

Any advice would be great, Thank you.

Hi you could always stop on the aire in Calais

Carol
Camping Jeugdstadion Ieper is great - very cheap, really close to the centre but has limited opening hours and a funny electric barrier to stop you getting in. Don't think there would be anyone there at that time. There is lots of parking beside the moaty thing arouns the walls and a big car park at the eisure centre round the back of the site, but you can't easily drive their from the site. was a thread a while back about the area which had more details.

Would advise ild camping in Cite Europe personally - you can shop late and early and foody bits are open as well.

I'm sorry, is the aire in Calais a campsite?

Edit- sorry ok, I now know what an aires is (like a road side rest stop thingie)

I would like a campsite and if poss wifi? (maybe the wifi is asking a lot)
There is an aire (an area where you can park for the night, and which has limited facilities, for a few Euros) overlooking the port at Calais - you would be there in about 5 minutes from leaving the boat. Note that this type of aire is not the same thing as the aires on the motorways - these are offical overnighting places, provided by the town, for the convenience of motorhomers

Right, great.

Understood and thank you for that info!
You can spend the night in the car park at Calais port. It is free and secure.

Sorry - I meant wild camping at Cite Europe. Lots of us do it. it's a big supermarket complex just of the motorway about 15mins drive from Calais. There's a big Carrefour, Tesco drinks shop lots of other shops and restaurants. There's probably somewhere in there that has free wifi - it has a Macdonalds.

The aire at Calais is right next to the Municipal Campsite. It fills up very early. Last time we tried to get in in the dark it was very hard to turn round once we found it was full! Ended up in Cite Europe.
