It's our last full day today at this site so I thought I'd share my views on it Camping Mar Menor | Parcelas y Bungalows en primera línea de playa | Murcia

Pros

  • Large standard pitches at 90sqm (and they are 9m x 10m too) at €18 pn plus the option of even larger pitches at €22 pn. NB These prices do not include electricity which is €0.55 per Kwh. All pitches have water to them. All prices quoted are 2023 prices.
  • Excellent restaurant, probably the best food we have had on any Spanish campsite
  • Direct access to a beach which then leads to a costal boardwalk down the cost to other beaches.
  • Very friendly helpful reception
  • Freshly baked bread available at €1 per baguette
  • Free wifi
  • Reasonable priced car hire locally (€90 for 3 days with the car dropped off and collected)
  • Very clean and newish facilities block. The blocks appear to be cleaned at least twice a day and even on Sundays. Epic-ly hot showers.
  • Spanish gas cylinder exchange at €21
  • Quiet at night: none of the ubiquitous dogs or cockerels which seem to have noise making contests like at some places we have stayed!
  • Good mix of nationalities with not too many Brits!
  • Good internal roads for MH manoeuvring

Cons

  • Its around 2Km to the nearest supermarket so do a big shop before you come if you don't want to move your unit plus it may be an idea to have bikes for any top ups. The site does have a small supermarket but we haven't been in there so can't comment.
  • The site is next to a military airport which trains pilots. As such there is noise from 8.00am most week days until early afternoon. Not at weekends though. It didn't bother us and is quite interesting to watch we thought. Last night was the first night in our time here that they did some evening/night practice but it finished by 9.30pm.
  • The pitch water supply needs a male 1/2 thread attachment. It's unlike any I have seen before and obviously causes problems as the site office sells male/male adaptors for €3 a piece! I carry a bag of water attachments with me so managed to make up the arrangement in the piccy below (the left hand side connect to the water) . It would be worth sourcing a male/male 1/2 and Hozelock type adaptor to go on it before you come (or indeed a 1/2 inch male to Hozelock outlet if available). NB The white stuff on the black adaptor is my is my PTFE tape

On balance, we would certainly come here again I think.

Thanks for the info. Stayed at La Manga in 2001 and didn't like it and the area very much. Haven't been back since but no doubt it has changed?

That 10 days went by quickly Graham, how far to your next stop and how long will you stay there?
It's around 2.5 hours to Javea and we'll stay there for 10 nights. Normally we'd be doing 2 weeks at each site but I cut it back so we could save some Schengen nights for our Sicily trip in April. We'll stop at the supermarkets when we leave here to and then with a lunch stop we'll get there early afternoon I guess.

It does go quickly though, I agree.

Not been before so couldn't comment. The local town (Los Alcazares) seems to have everything but does seem a little utilitarian. Cartagena was nice.

We are just a little North of you Graham outside Oliva at Eurocamping 2.
Good ACSI site right on the beach and an easy cycle to Font Salada.
Carmel likes these kind of wild swimming opportunities.........but wherever you see the word hot read slightly warmish.....not for me.
Off tomorrow to overnight at the Ikea in Murcia then Granada and Motril.
I think I said before I thought I should offer a blog as I had benefitted so much from others...................... I got as far as "It was nice today and the sun was shining" and decided it was not for me.
But happy to provide any details people might want.

Thanks for that suggestion, I am logging lots for our next visit.

As regards the section I have put in bold in your quote.

I doubt that many of us have ever set out knowing that we could write things that others might find interesting. To a large extent it is confidence. My only exercise in written English before was along the lines of

“ B for Effort. C for attainment. He is an amiable student, taking an active part in the lessons. His written notes are fairly complete although, as he is well aware, some of his homework’s have not been completed. It is important that he ensures completion of all the revision exercises set in the early part of next term if he is to gain the grade that he wants.”

A good way of breaking the ice on eg PolarSteps, which I used for the first time for our Christmas trip, is to post a couple of photographs, they do not have to be outstanding, just perhaps show something of the area you are in, or that you encountered. Then add a few words to describe what you liked, disliked about the location and your future plans. It tends to grow each day as you learn that you can do it and that you do get “likes”.

You write superbly on here, I am sure we are far from unique - give it a go, you may well come to enjoy it and it’s better than trying to argue with some people on here (says he carefully).

The first step/post is the hardest, it certainly does become easier with practice, but just a format that you can edit easily if you spot an error or an omission. That has been the one good thing about the revamp of MHF, we are no longer limited to being able to edit within 59 minutes of posting.

I mentioned that our campsite is next to a Spanish military airport, well yesterday we were treated to a free air display by what presumably are the Spanish equivalent of The Red Arrows however there was only 5 of them so perhaps just training again...

I googled the weather in Granada just now out of interest and right now its warmer in the Yorkshire Dales than it is in Granada! -2c last night apparently. Looks sunny there though.
