Squeely wheel

Hi everyone

We have a rather nasty squeeling sound coming from the front offside wheel of our 05 Trigano Tribute. I've looked here and seen that wheel bearings can be a problem on the Ducato. But the squeeling on ours is intermittent and can sometimes be stopped while driving by turning the wheel sharply. The sound is not accompanied by a vibration either.

Having about as much technical knowledge as a goldfish myself, I wondered if anyone thought this sounded familiar and knew of the cure?

Many thanks

Is it under braking, or does it happen anytime?

Kev.
No, it's not just when braking. The sound can start just as we're cruising along.
It sound like a small stone trapped between a plate and the disc, I had the same problem, It can work its own way out or if you look behind the wheel and disc you will see a guard plate-just give it a push away from the disc where the stone may be trapped.

Hope this help... :)

I'd echo that as a possibility, or a bearing, but bearings normally rumble, not heard one squeal, unless it was bone dry, not a big fix if it's the wheel bearing though any garage should be able to do it, it's wheel off, brake disc and calliper off, remove stub axle, and swap the bearing, 2 hours tops, unless it proves obstinate.

I echo what Bimobil said. It happened to me once - the squealing noise was dire but stopped when the stone eventually fell out.

We had several occurrences of the same sort of thing 2 years ago when the van was new and we were in France on our first trip in it. We had Fiat Camper Assistance out three times - see my blog.

They thought it was stones but - 3 times ?

Eventually it turned out to be an improperly adjusted / not screwed up properly rear disk brake shield. Ten minutes at the garage when we got home and it has not given any more trouble in 13000 miles.

Do you get bonser deals with squealy wheels? :?
Have a similar problem with my X2-50.
Squeals when going round a right hand corner when you have driven for 30-40 miles.
It is just the pads touching but probably caused by a wheel bearing, though I have checked, and the local garage also and there is no real play in the bearing.
Solution: just put a small chamfer on the leading edge of the pad. Noise now gone and we have done several hundred miles.
Martin.
Would favour the "brake pad" problem.

Solutions are several. But sounds like you need a garage to re-seat pads with new anti-squeal springs and copper grease.

Thank you all for your help and suggestions. Fingers crossed it's just a small trapped stone then - we'll have a look at the weekend. Thanks again
