Hi All
Spent 3 nights away in the van last weekend with no hookup and was disapointed with how long the 12volt system lasted

I have 2 x 110ah batteries,
So when I got home decided to check what wattage everything was dragging and found the culprit to be the 1600watt inverter that came with the van
With just the inverter turned on it is pulling 3.5amp, which is about 40watt
with the telly on 7amp

I had assumed that with no load it would only have pulled milliamps, and tended to leave it on

Consididering that 90% of the time I only use it for the telly, I have now stuck my old faith full 300watt inverter in as well so that I can run off that the next time we are not on hook up

Its nice to have a big inverter but as with most things there is a pay off

I cant see why an inverter with nothing plugged in would draw 3.5 Amps.

Are you certain there was nothing else on? :wink:

Had all the circuits split
everything unplugged from the sockets on the inverter circuit,
Took reading with multimeter then got my son to turn on telly

Hopefully one of the Inverter Guru,s can throw more light on my readings

Cheapest fix would be to go and get a cheap 150W inverter from Maplins.

Like this one

We use to use one before we went down the 12V TV route and it only use to draw 4.75 Amps running 15" LCD and a Sky box.

Then keep you big inverter for when you need the extra power.

Thanks Richard I did state in my post I have fitted a smaller unit :wink:
