If you redial, do you not lose your place in 'the queue'? I usually just leave it ringing out, on speaker, so that when a human answers (sometimes after the best part of an hour, once longer) I can engage with the conversation. Mind you, after a message of 'Your call is important to us...' every 15s (is that really necessary?) sometimes I'm so punch drunk it takes a few seconds to recognise that a person is speaking to me.

Only if they have a queuing system. Ours does not so we get a constant engaged tone. So it's the luck of the draw. You win if you get there just as they put the phone down. The more often you hang up on engaged and dial again the better your chances of being the lucky winner.

Can’t wait for the new system that gets you quickly through to the reception, sadly it just means it’s a faster path to getting told there’s no availability left.
BTW when we do currently get through it’s not to see the Doc, just to get a return phone call from a Doc.

The system has been bugg erd deliberately to push folk to private practices that are already advertising such services. Fine if you can afford it, too bad if you can’t.

What a shame :) ...

Perhaps they’ll take the Tories to court for theft, after all they did steal all their promises and a lot of their membership.

So no need now for a far right loon party that can trash the country, the one in power at present has shown it’s already got those capabilities.

Brewery renames White Face beer after customers said it sounded 'a bit racist'
Brewery renames White Face beer after customers said it sounded 'a bit racist' (aol.co.uk)
Bloody madness.

Ray.
Brewery renames White Face beer after customers said it sounded 'a bit racist'

Bloody madness.

Ray.
Really Ray?

Would it be OK if there was a beer called Fat Git beer, or would that be a name that might not be such a good idea as it might have the potential to lead to argument in a pub.

Fat bloke who is very conscious of his size comes into a pub he's never been in before and says "Give me a pint of Fat Git please:"
The local ******* at the bar says "Bugger me mate you've already overdosed on that."
What happens next?

Black bloke goes into a strange pub and says "Pint of White Face please."
Would he actually do that in the first place?

If the brewery want to sell more beer changing the name seems a no brainer.

Now your sounding like Peter Alan. I guess there will always be someone who can interpret any simple comment into a slur or target at someone.
But the name White Face Beer to me has absolutely no other meaning than a beer. I'm sure there are many more proprietary names that could be objected to if we put our minds to it.

How about asking for it in a 'slim' glass? Could that be offensive? Only if your hell bent on finding it offensive.

Ray.
My point was a serious and genuine one Ray.

What effect, if any, do you think calling a beer White Face would have on sales to coloured people?

How many pubs having a significant number of coloured customers would chose to sell it and how likely would any pub run by considerate people be to add it to their range?

These are genuine questions.

I challenge you to come up with another current brand which might encounter the same difficulties.

Surely you can see that your slim analogy does not hold water? You may as well say that every brand using the word white or black cause problems, but clearly and for very obvious reasons they do not.
I can't offhand think of any other colour described beers or even drinks as not been to a pub in 25 years.
But there must be many coloured named items and even 'pale' ales or 'brown' beers that just could annoy some overly sensitive person looking for confrontation.
I don't know how long the White Faced beer has been in existence. If before the latest sensitive era then why not. I disagree with having to change many historical names and items just because it's now out of fashion or vaguely upsetting to a new minority group who want everyone else to bow to their ideas.

Yes it does seem your comment "You may as well say that every brand using the word white or black cause problems, but clearly and for very obvious reasons they do not." is selective and is often taken out of context so some overly sensitive or antagonistic person can jump on their particular bandwagon.
We, or maybe just me, are almost living in fear that some innocent comment can now be pounced upon as racist or offensive by one group or another.

Just another thought, are "Lazy Boy sofas" still being sold? Apparently yes. La-Z-Boy UK | Recliners, Sofas, Chairs | Official Site | La-Z-Boy UK or maybe a "Lazy Susan" is now a defamatory name?

I still say it's bordering on the absurd or crazy.!

Just read a comment about beers....................

Will the breweries White Brewing Company, White Horse, White Horse Brewery Co Ltd, White Shield Brewery and Whites Brewery be expected to change their names?
Or the names of the beers White Shield, White Wych, White Horse Bitter, Rebellion White, White Rat, White Star and Rebellion White.

Or perhaps Black Dog Brewery, Black Sheep Brewery, Black Isle Brewery should change and beers Black Sheep Ale, Black Douglas, Black Gold, Black Abbot, Black Dog, Penny Black, Black Rock Ale, Black Cuillin, Black Adder, Black IIPA, Black Cat, Cheshire Black, Peaky Blinder Black, BlackWych, Black Dragon Mild, The Black Galloway, Very Nutty Black, Black Dragon Mild, Black Beauty, Black Swan, Black Dub, Black Pearl Black Wych should be renamed.

Ray.
As already said Ray it is the combination of the word white or black with another word which may cause offence Ray. If someone refers to a black man that is fine but if he referred to a black bast..d that would be highly offensive. I am sure you can see that difference between an offensive combination of words and an acceptable one.

There are no combinations in your recent list that would offend a reasonable person and that is what considerate people would take into account when naming things, or when considering whether the context or acceptability of a name that's been around for a while had changed.. Obviously as standards evolve we adjust our behaviour. We don't keep slaves anymore even though it was perfectly acceptable years ago. We wear seat belts, most don't drink and drive, few smoke these days and we don't send children up chimneys. These are some of the changes in what were previously the norms. Most of those changes annoyed some people as they were adopted. Slavers had to be paid off to stop their trade for example.

Finally there is a considerable difference between someone who deliberately looks for things to take offence at and a brewery, or any business, changing a name partly out of consideration, I assume, and almost certainly because it is so very easy to see how doing so could increase the number of stockists and increase sales.

"There are no combinations in your recent list that would offend a reasonable person" ................................... yet.! But give em their head like free speech.

Ray.
You are right Ray I was going to reply but trying to explain things in the patient way Alan has done felt like a waste of time. But anyway........
You seem determined not to even try to understand or even empathise with the issues involved. Can you not see that White Face is completely different to all the other whites that you mention. Can you not even consider for a moment the questions Alan poses. As for Lazy Susan comments:eek:
Gollies aren't just that they're wogs as well...where do you think that insult came from.

Would you have complained when we started saying Scope instead of spastic (or worse)Downs instead of *********(or worse)Perhaps you did.

Is it just the black issue that goes tooooo far for you.........no it's probably the gender nonsense as well.
Who knows what "they" are going to do next ?
Yes I understand Peter but obviously don't totally think along the lines that you do. I don't feel the need to keep banging that drum to get everyone on the same narrow path. I wouldn't deliberately or knowingly insult or cause offence. But because I belong to a generation where we didn't need to be so careful with every word in case it just might be interpreted in a way it was not intended. It's like doing a crossword puzzle, not everyone sees the answers.

Humour is subjective but "Black Lives Matter" isn't.

Ray.
No Ray the reason I bang on is because I don't think you actually try to understand.
If you are so concerned about not causing offence (which I believe)why do you not take account of those explanations as to what can cause offence. Not to me but certainly family and friends.Do I need to explain why "wogs" is offensive even with the jolly golly in front.
Age is no excuse.Everyone sees the answers to the crossword puzzle when it's explained to them.
By the way I did not start this train of thought,or gollies or GP waiting times and perhaps they should go into another thread perhaps "This annoyed me this morning"

I'm sure someone will come along and make us smile again:):)
............ I wouldn't deliberately or knowingly insult or cause offence. ....................

Ray.

And I imagine that's exactly what the brewery had in mind too Ray. They changed it because they realised that it might offend and they didn't want to do that. They might have changed it because they had complaints and didn't want to offend. In the end it is the same thing, the wish not to offend.
