This is going to sound really silly but...........

My tie rod broke, got a replacement so all good there, now the really stupid question - the large O ring, where does it sit on the baseplate, when I took old tank off it looked like the o ring was around the groove on the outermost part of the plate, there is another groove further in that seems to correspond with the step on the tank - I'm unsure where it goes - i'm doing it in situ so a little harder - any help appreciated

This isn't my heater, I looked on google to see if I could find a picture - my tie rod broke at the electrics end
Have a look on YouTube, one of our dear departed members did a similar repair on his Cascade too, search post from Listerdiesel.

I tried to find the actual link gaz, but I don't find the search facility much good and Google wasn't much use either.

However I did find a couple of entries by listerdiesel where he mentions these people

Gary at ARC Systems is the guy to talk to:

Hi. Did you ever solve this? I have the same question. I would assume the O ring goes on the inner lip, but when Ive tried this the tank wobbles, even when tightened to the max.
Do any of these videos help, I've not touched one for 11 years so forgotten how it all works.

Good luck, they are a good reliable water heater but a bit old fashioned.

I'm sure Barryd had some trouble with one not too long ago, but that might have been the outside drain seal.
