I wish I could find a man 20 years younger than me, I don´t think I´d be complaining. 🤩 as long as he could cook, do DIY, Gardening and all that jazz, plus a bit of money in his pocket.

Well yes many benefits, we have been married for 25 years, and have two great kids, 23 and 21 and have had a great life together, still do, No real complaints here, I have been working as an architect up to a few months ago but the work I was doing for an architect in California has dried up so I am sort of going into full retirement mode while she is busy with work. I have no real problems keeping busy just seem to be stuck at home too much.

We are popping into Llandeilo this morning as Mrs GMJ has an appointment and we've a few errands to run. That's about it for the day then.

Mouse Wars update (it's a bit like the Punic Wars but less bloody!)

Graham 4 (or 5)
Mice nil

I caught another one overnight in one of the traps that Jan linked to. Tbh I wasn't that impressed with it as it trapped the mouse quite high up around the head and the trap had moved a distance suggesting that it wasn't a clean kill as the little blighter struggled. They were expensive too at around a fiver for 2 (compared to 6 quid for 8 Little Nipper type ones).

I bought a third type of trap which I'll deploy if we have any more evidence of them and certainly before we go away next week.

If you set the trap Graham and set it off yourself I think you will see how far it jumps on its own, I do think a clout on the head is a quicker death than breaking it´s back.

In this case the trap went forward 3 inches then managed to get itself 2 inches under a floorboard so the mouse was definitely not dead when it was trapped. The paws of the mouse were also fixed in a position where it was obviously traying to free itself when it died. The trap caught it across the head/neck so was not an instant death like the old fashioned ones. No matter, I'll use then again and we'll see how it goes. If I have another one like it though I'll stop using them as the nippers are instant and therefore more humane.

This afternoon I went to Poland for Diesel, 1.52€ a ltr. that's £1.33 sterling. I then came back to BadFreienwalde and went to a new optician to get my eyes tested, new lenses in 10 days time.

Morning

There is a Parish Council meeting being held in the village hall next to us this morning, to discuss proposals for a new bridge across the river that runs through our village. The local farmers have petitioned for one as they cannot get their large machnery across the existing bridge. There is a great deal of emotion about the proposal as it will involve compulsory purchasing some gardens off villagers. It wont directly affect us but we will go and support our neighbours and friends...after all, the farmers knew the size of the existing bridge before they bought their machinery as its been there for 100's of years!

This afternoon we'll be picking up the MH after it's Hab Check earlier this week.

The size of farm machinery now is ridiculous! So many times we have been forced to find refuge in a farm gate or on the verge to let them pass. Whatever are they doing to the land? Good luck in keeping the old bridge :)

Got soaked on the dog walk this morning and now it has stopped raining! Not doing much except watching Cheltenham racing on the tv.

There was no question of losing the old bridge as its a listed structure. The discussion was about whether there could be another bridge however as the County Council bloke said, it would cost over £3m and their entire budget for the year for bridges is £400k!

I have to stop for today as my back is about to break. I have had 4 hours in the shed tidying things up because when the man comes to put the false roof etc in the big room he wants everything out so in the shed will go 4 benches (maybe 2 might go for firewood), and the old DDR kitchen furniture that stores things like empty jam jars, car winter window covers, all sorts of things one needs, but not every day.
I must get rid of this somehow. Not the snow shovel the top box. and a battery operated invalid scooter.

Thanks Jan :)

Looks very exciting Jean. I am with Jan, though, in that I tend to avoid all the places that people like to visit. I just want to see the countryside and experience how the locals live.

I'm going to start buy updating the four Garmin sat navs. That could take all day.

Ray.
