I've got to try to remember to make a dentists appointment before my pension credits stop.

Morning all

We bought some mozzie repellent yesterday and also a spray for the MH too, just in case any of the blighters get in here! Hopefully both of them will help!

The plan for today is to visit the town of Corleone...just because, really!

Off to day three of the Windsor Horse Trials. Chris managed to get his scooter charged at the information stand for the show yesterday. Now that we are more confident it will not run out of battery we will go out to the further reaches of Windsor Great Park to watch the horse driving trials today. That is, of course, if the van is still in the spot we left it last night. The street parking outside the house we are staying in was all full when we got back yesterday so we had to park in the next street. We discovered, then, that the van has a fault on the door locking system!! It goes clunk click when you press the key fob but the passenger doors are not locking. The alarm is set so that when you try the passenger door on the locked setting it goes off. As it is a fair way away we will not hear it :(. Chris jerry rigged a strap with a ratchet to the rear door handles inside and around the front seats to secure them from opening wide.
Weather should be nicer today as it was a tad cool out yesterday!

Morning

I had a terrible nights sleep last night as it was so warm and sultry here. The temperature touched 29 yesterday and the air was heavy with it even during the night.

Today we are having a day of rest from driving and will have a walk into the local village as there is a farmers market on today.

Despite my precautions with mozzie spray I've still picked up another 10 or so new bites!
Sorry to hear that Graham:( I, on the other hand slept like a log except for the usual 3 am break. Went to bed early too because the tv is saying "no signal`' We retired early with a book.

It is the last day of the show today. Hoping for some warmer weather!

Morning

We are off into Palermo by train today. We have the car but it is easy to get to the railway station from where we are staying (800m) plus only €6 or so each, return. I do hope it stops raining though as we were up half the night with horrendous thunder storms!
Well we got our warmer weather :) In fact it was a beautiful day to watch the driving trials in the morning and five star show jumping in the afternoon.
We have to vacate our accommodation by 10am and then we will wend our way home. I will then go and collect Georgia from kennels. We got a message from our cleaner, on Friday, to say that Thomas the seventeen year old cat had eaten five days worth of food in under two days! As you are not meant to starve cats I had to authorise that more food be left down to last him up to today. I am going to investigate these timed cat feeders that only open at a set time. It will serve a purpose to save us monitoring his food when Georgia is on the lookout to steal it.

Today is postponed as Mrs G did not sleep at all well due to the rain and thunder plus it's going to hoy it down all day so it would be no fun being out and about. I wish I hadn't paid for our train tickets now but the lady who runs the campsite is going to try and see if she can get them changed to Wednesday as by then the forecast suggests that the weather should change.

So plan for today: nowt!

It rained all day yesterday solidly apart from a 1 hour break between 1 and 2 pm!

Today there is rain forecast but we managed to get a good nights sleep last night so will venture out and plan to drive to Cefalu. On the way back through Palermo we'll stop at a supermarket and try and stock up ready for our home trip.

Boat trip up a river with the walking group and then an organised lunch somewhere. Weather looks good all day.

Ra.
Had a good run home yesterday. Picked up, a delighted, Georgia from kennels on the way.

The carpenters are here early to build the oak beam porch so will be on tea making duties today.
Fitted a new carpet in the kitchen, barrier matting

looks brilliant and so much easier to keep clean, no mopping or polishing

a quick hoover, and no wet footprints from the garden

Morning

We are off into Palermo by train today and fingers crossed, the rain stays off. We got caught in a shower when we got to Cefalu yesterday but then thankfully it held off for the rest of the day.
Carpenters are here again working on the porch. Had a site meeting with the landscapers last night to go through the changes we wanted. Just changed some turf to shingle and paving so that there is no mowing. We are looking at having quite a bit of shingle over a weed proof barrier because it is easy to make a hole in it and plant something if we want to.
Good choice on the kitchen carpet Sandra. I have had it for years. Ours is called Flotex. A non slip material that just needs vacuuming makes life so much safer and easier.

Three years ago Kev! It is just us project managing it remember. We have to go out to quote for each trade and that is assuming we can find someone to quote! Then there was the water main running under where the footings were going that held things up for five months while we fought a losing battle over the huge cost of moving it. After that came covid with lockdowns, shortage of materials and scarcity of labour. We then had to sell the old house and move into the fifth wheel to finance the rest of the build. Chris was diagnosed with bowel cancer shortly after the sale went through and then the chemo attacked his heart giving him heart failure.
Are we excused Sir? :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

Getting work done even for small jobs seems to be increasingly more difficult nowadays. no one seems to want to do a fair days work for a fair days pay, we got a quote for papering a chimney breast last week £550 + VAT, so he got told to Foxtrot Oscar, it's two rolls max, there is a fireplace to work but surely that is just part of the job.
You were lucky to get someone willing to quote for such a small job. We have had trouble getting quotes for some jobs on the whole bungalow. I don't think they get out of bed for lest than a thousand nowadays. Our plasterer, who did the outside rendering, just quoted on jobs that he fancied doing. If the customer was nice then he would put himself out. Young single bloke so no need to put himself out really.
Yeah they just over quote for the jobs they hate.
