My PC keeps nagging me to upgrade to Win 11. I really don't know if I want to learn a new operating system as well as lose some functions I am happy with.
It's OK saying you can 'roll-back' but what a waste of time.

Not offered on mine, don't expect it'll be that much different after a couple of days anyway as you get used to new stuff until your brain can't adjust anymore.

I shouldnt worry Ray. If your computer is more than four years old chances are it wont run anyway :D

Remember when Microsoft said W10 would be their last OS?
To be honest, it doesnt sound like a big deal.
Seems you cant install it without a Microsoft account either. Quelle Surprise.
Thanks Baz. You know my PC is only one year old as with your advice I bought it. Lenovo M720q.

I am kinda concerned I will lose the use some old software I have got used to.
i.e. a 15 year old Casio camera dock, Windows photo viewer, Picasa, etc.

I have had mine for several years now and never been refused help from the Apple support, I speak to people in England, Ireland, Portugal, America, everywhere they have an Apple support team. They all speak excellent English by the way. One lady invited me to Portugal for Christmas one year :grin2:

Wait until the new year and look at a few You Tube videos in the meantime.....in fact the obvious procedure with all Windows major updates!?
But, sadly many users simply can't wait!

Ray, we must move with the times, keep up with new technology otherwise we would still be using a slate and chalk.

I have just updated my computers to run on Apples new OS Monterey that arrived on the scene yesterday morning. Obviously it is too early for me to give a verdict as I am still investigating the changes but so far I can't fault it, Im sure that you will adjust to Microsofts OS 11 the more you use it.

Why wait until tomorrow? you might not be here to enjoy what you did today.

My issue with Apple is that you are tied to them to fix issues, at least with Linux if you have a hardware failure you can choose who repairs it, not so Apple, but for linux/unix software issues you are very much on your own unless you have friends who can help, if not it has to be done online. I'm not knocking any of them, but the support is very focussed, whereas a std windows matchine can be fixed anywhere and apart from specialist programs they are widely understood.

"with my advice" eh? Consultancy services! Did I send you an invoice?

There is a full list of whats required and whats removed here https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-11-specifications

Actually I think it said microsoft account required for Windows home. Doesnt mention Pro so thats the same as 10 then. There was always a work around when setting up a Windows 10 home PC without a microsoft account. Just disconnect it from the internet when setting it up and it will fail and allow you to create an account without a microsoft account so maybe its still the same with 11.

Didnt see Windows photo viewer or Picasa on the list I dont think of stuff thats gone but your 15 year old camera Dock will always be a bit of a gamble. W10 somehow if anything though became more backward compatible as it developed. I believe support for 10 will be until 2025 so dont worry about it. We will all probably be dead or Zombies by then anyway.

I think you were going to send an invoice but you said you couldn't beat their price.
Yep, I have come to rely and like my Photo Viewer and Picasa. The 15 year old dock couldn't be recognised by Win 7 & 8 but popped up again on 10. So I don't want to loose it again.

As far as I can see Win 11 is just different colours and rounder shapes. No improvements then.

"Methinks" you need to do a little reading Ray. Do you honestly think that Microsoft have spent millions just to alter colours and round off shapes?

Agreed Drew it was just a cursory glance but that all the time I can devote right now. I will await others in depth opinions. At least my PC is compatible.

Just checked and seen on a slightly older Lenovo ThinkCentre abd have a message that it Does meet the minimum requirements for Windows 11 and will be offered soon. So as it's only my standby, back-up PC I might try it on that first.

Stupid Boy! The invoice is for the "consultancy" advice!! Nobody ever made any money selling computers! Its advising numpties like you where the money is. Dont say I never give you nowt for free then!

I think the main feature of W11 is probably the increased security which takes advantage of later hardware and firmware using TPM 2.0 which is why older machines cant have it. Supposedly better performance and of course no doubt MS will have engineered it so it ties you ever further into them.

Just looked at updating an older laptop and get the message unsurprisingly that it doesn't meet the requirements for Windows 11.
