Windscreen washer gone chips on 98 Ducato

Hi folks

I can hear the pump running, but nowt but a dribble coming out of the two washer jets (and yes, I have filled up the reservoir). I'm guessing the winter frosts have stripped a blade or two off the pump - can anyone give me any clues on how to replace it, please?

before getting that drastic, check that water is getting along the pipes - cheaper to clean out the pies than get a new pump!
Thanks Bognormike

I think the pipes are OK - a dribble of water comes out when you squeeze them. Sounds as though the pump motor is running at top speed but producing nothing, which is what makes me think the blades have broken off during the icy weather.

maybe the the pipe has come off that feeds from reservoir. due to ice/frost the description of fault was the same has mine . but it was on a mondeo. bit of a pig to get the pipe reconnected but once fitted all was well.

Hi Mike,

You and me both. Our dripping pump (99 Ducato)was discovered at the MOT on Saturday, and I have removed it from the base of the washer bottle.

If it is definitely your pump that has failed, (and not something simpler), disconnect the outlet tube, and using your left hand, turn the motor housing to the left, out of it's white plastic bracket, then gently ease the pump from the base of the bottle. The rubber sealing washer may come with it. You'll need that for the replacement pump, which incidently, will set you back £40.52 incl from Fiat, or less than a tenner from a reputable motor factor.
They are made by a firm called Pearl and the part number is....PWP39

HTH,

Jock.
