Hello, I have purchased a new lower offside wing mirror for my Mobilvetta K-yacht 80 (the previous one was knocked off) and am wondering where to plug in the electrical cord- any ideas?

were there any wires in the old mirror, do you have anything to control the mirrors, you possibly need to give us more info such as age and make of base vehicle as we're trying to help but a bit in the dark, pictures of the whole assembly would help.

Yeah sure - sorry if I appeared impatient - not intended at all. The vehicle is a Mobilvetta k-yacht 80, and is 1 year old. I suspect the cable is for heating of the mirror. I am attaching pics of the overall mirror housing, and of the new mirror - I hope you can help!

I did try to post pics - am trying again, as my post seems to have disappeared (possibly because the pics were too much storage). Anyway, many apologies if I seemed impatient - not intended at all! The Motorhome is a Mobilvetta K-yacht 80 and is one year old. I am posting pics of the wing mirror and the new part - I hope you can help!

Yes, I think John is right, a shame it's not a standard mirror, I know how to do jobs on those, this is more like a coach mirror and out of my range of knowledge.

I didn't think you were impatient, more frustrated which is understandable, at least you have the main mirror so still drivable, I came back down from Skye once with the whole mirror dangling by its wires, not fun.

Yeah - nightmare - you definitely have my sympathy! I did wonder whether the socket is behind the big mirror. Do you have any idea how I get the big mirror off?

I don't have knowledge of your precise mirror assembly but for all of that type, the glass (now often plastic) is retained on a structure that effectively clips into place via ball and socket attachments.
Usually it is possible to lever / pull the glass along with its retainer from the backing housing which has the motor for remote adjustment within.

Hope that makes sense, can't think how else to explain.
It can be very daunting trying to separate the components.

I wonder if there might be similar mirrors on YouTube that may give a few clues.

It's difficult not being there, would it be possible for you to take a short close up video from different angles and post it?

I have taken a video, but I cannot upload a video - only photos! I am not sure it will help though - it does not really show much! I have looked at the near side mirror (through the gap between the mirrors!) and the wires do appear to go behind the larger mirror and then disappear as they go higher…

It might be you'll have to take the mirror off to get access to the plug socket.

You can't upload a video to here, but if you have any cloud storage you could upload it to that, or Youtube and post a link.

Hi beabug , the problem Christatt has is not related to where to connect an ancillary to, the power for the mirror remote adjustment and heating element will have been taken from the original vehicle base supply.
He has damaged a lower mirror in the assembly and the replacement has a heating element on it and he cannot see where the plug in connector is located, most likely behind the large mirror in the unit.
