The following has been copied from the Biomagic website, may be of help.

WATER SYSTEMS CONTAMINATED WITH DIESEL.

For tank sizes of 80 to 100 litres.

Drain or hose out as much of the diesel as possible.
Flush using hot water with detergent, & 150-ml of methylated spirits.
Rinse well.
Add 500-ml of Standard BioMagic WITHOUT PERFUME & fill the tank with water. Leave overnight to soak and allow BioMagic to act on the organic products present in the tank.
Finally, rinse once more.
There should now be no diesel taste or odour, if heavy contamination, repeat if necessary.

Hi

Yes read the links above and:

First ...do not use the water pump or turn on any taps inside the van.... sounds obvious but I am sure it has happened.

Then if you are able find the drain down outlet and drain the diesel and any water out of the tank... you may be able to do this yourself or get to a good mechanic.

Then follow the advice given in the threads above.

Last ... If you can get the tank drained and washed quickly the smell/taste problem will be less... but you will still be able to get away, just carry some water containers for drinking water... after cleaning and washing the tank will be OK but there may be some residual smell/taste for quite a while.

One sort of strange tip I have heard to cure this residual taste/smell is after doing all the chemical cleaning make up avery strong batch of Orange Squash... fill the tank with this and leave overnight... I am assured that this makes the chemical smell go away. ( you might be a bit fruity after washing though  ...sorry trying to cheer you up  )

Hi Lablady,

You seem to have all the answers already given - isn't this site brilliant? - The only thing I would add is when you have done all the cleaning put in some baby sterilising fluid and leave either overnight or for a few hours.

This has got rid of any taint in the water tanks we had and we can make a fresh cup of tea without any scum!

Sorry if you already found this on one of the other threads, but better safe than sorry!

Regards

Chris
