Is it me or does the prices at the pumps seem to go up every week? The cheapest I can find is 104.9p per litre. Now the pump prices have broken the £1 barrier I can see prices making a steady upward movement. I had a fuel station owner show me his invoice for 1000 litres of fuel, he was only making 1p per litre, could hardly call it a profit when considering the overheads he must have. I think it is a disgrace that we have such high prices forced upon us and we are expected to just let it happen. Listening to the radio the other evening I hear the truckers are primed and ready to strike over the cost of fuel. Whilst I don't condone taking such action I can understand why they would do so and I for one would join them, never felt this way before but I think that 80p or so on every litre going to the government is an obscene amount to be paying.

I will get of my soap box now.

Totally agree with the cost of fuel being to high and the amount of tax we pay. this goverment needs to sort out its agenda as they are putting the tax up again in April.

This increases the cost of everything we buy (food, clothes etc) and in thurn the amount of tax we pay on it. Its win win for the goverment. the sooner we get rid of them the better (better than who though) The party that cuts fuel tax will get my vote

Came back from Spain and France at the end of October. Paying just over 1 Euro in Spain and around 1.20 on the motorways in France, 1.10 at Auchan, etc.

Every week thousands of lorries come into the UK having filled up with diesel in Europe, run around the country for a few days, taking business away from our hauliers who can't compete as the foreigners don't pay road tax either.

Wrote to Gordon Brown about 4 years ago suggesting that as each lorry landed in the UK they were given a ticket and charged for the use of our roads when they turned up to catch the ferry back. Guess what happened - absolutely nothing!!

I am afraid that this lot could not organise a party in a brewery - or anywhere else!!

I think for the first time in my life the price figures on the pump are beating the litres underneath so it is quite startling to see your money literally spinning away.

But in my view we aint seen nothing yet. £1.50 per Ltr is not too far away.

Fuel prices

Our only hope is that recent events have called into question Gordon's government and with inflation rising because of the fuel hike which will hit all prices in time, he may make some gesture to buy political goodwill.

Since getting my first car, my annual fuel costs have doubled but my average mileage is just a quarter of what it was. My income is ten times what it was. So I guess I should be better able to afford the fuel prices.

Hmmm. Doesn't make me feel any better.

Lets not forget it was the conservatives who introduced the fuel duty escalator in the UK. It was a deliberate policy to raise prices so that we would use less. Gordon Brown scrapped it after the blockades a few years ago. If he had continued with that tory policy it would be over £1.30 a litre now. Still hate the tw-t though. i wonder what Cameron would do now, with all his talk of green taxes ?.

Fuel costs

GOOD MORNING BRITAIN (not Vietnam)

Every one on this thread has a valid point with regards to fuel hikes.
What upsets me is the amount of non Knights on our roads now. I have only ever seen such bad inconsiderate road users, in what was across the old Iron border, now they are all over here not adding to our economy.

Why our lot can't introduce a scheme like the German Maut, the Austrian Go Box, or even put a levy on the amount of fuel in there tanks to make the fuel cost equate to ours I don't know.

We were once stopped by our old C&E, on that trip we didn't have any shopping on board, after a search, to no avail, they advised if they wanted to they could make us pay extra Vat to bring up the fuel cost to the UK as it was obvious I had just filled up in Calais. They didn't I guess it would have been to much paper work.

So the rule must be in place :? :? :?

Kind regards

I am pretty sure that EEC law dictates that a member pays the VAT amount of the country of purchase and possibly if that member wants can reclaim the VAT and then pay his own countries VAT. YOu must be very unlucky being stopped by the Church. That's all we need. 8O
